PPA S.A.: Completion of Emergency Drill for Pollution Incident Response at the Port of Piraeus
Piraeus Port Authority S.A. (PPA S.A.) carried out, once again this year, in the central Port and specifically in the Ferry Terminal (Gate E7), an emergency drill for responding to incidents of marine and land pollution.
The primary purpose of this drill was the knowledge enhancement and the acquisition of specialized experience, both by the staff of PPA S.A. and by the port users, for the effective activation and implementation of the Marine and Land Pollution Response Plan. Additionally, during the execution of the drill, the available and fully operational equipment used for responding to pollution incidents was demonstrated. The drill was conducted in collaboration with PPA S.A.’s specialized contractor responsible for the implementation of the “ANTIPOLLUTION ANE” Plan, and in the presence of the competent Hellenic Coast Guard.
It is emphasized that environmental protection and the adoption of preventive measures constitute a fundamental pillar of the strategy on the basis of which the company implements the plan for the further modernization and development of the Port of Piraeus. In this context, PPA S.A. carries out numerous environmental projects and initiatives that contribute to the prevention of environmental incidents and to the formation of an overall preventive approach to contemporary environmental challenges.
The CEO of PPA S.A., Mr. Su Xudong, expressed his sincere gratitude to the staff for the proper and successful completion of the drill, emphasizing that continuous and systematic preparation constitutes a fundamental factor for the effective management of potential emergency incidents. PPA S.A. actively participated in the anniversary event of the Hellenic-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Tourism & Shipping, marking 30 years since its establishment (1995–2025), titled “Bridging Cultures and Building Futures in the Sino-Hellenic Business Relations.”

PPA S.A.: Revenue and profit increase the First Half of 2025
PPA S.A. announced its financial results for the first half of 2025, reporting an increase in revenue and profitability, in a period that continues to be challenging for shipping and global trade.
Total revenue amounted to €122.8 million, representing a 14.7% increase compared to €107.1 million in the same period of 2024. The increase mainly came from the container and cruise sectors and the concession of piers II & III, while declines were recorded in the car terminal, ship repair and coastal shipping segments, with the decrease in coastal shipping attributed to the 50% reduction of port dues effective from May 2025.
Net profit after tax reached €46.7 million, compared to €40.4 million in the first half of 2024, an increase of 15.3%. During the same period, the company carried out investments of €48.1 million in infrastructure projects and equipment, while paying off its bank debt through the early repayment of two loans. Total assets amounted to €682.4 million, up 3.0% compared to year-end 2024.

PPA S.A.: Publication of the 2024 Sustainability Report
Piraeus Port Authority S.A., with a steadfast focus on the sustainable development and ongoing modernization of the Port of Piraeus, adopts and implements a coherent set of rules, protocols, and initiatives related to Environment, Society, and Corporate Governance (ESG). Under this perspective, PPA S.A. published its 2024 Sustainability Report in accordance with the new European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), integrating the principles of accountability and transparency in all aspects of its operations.
Within the framework of its strategy for sustainable development and responsible corporate management, in 2024 PPA S.A. introduced a series of significant actions across the ESG pillars, reaffirming its commitment to a modern and resilient development model.
Notably, in 2024, the first phase of a specialized study aimed at strengthening the port’s resilience to climate change was completed, while in the near future, the measures for the port’s adaptation to climate change will be studied in detail. At the same time, an action plan for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the port was initiated, along with the operation of an electronic platform for environmental data monitoring and recording. Additionally, a noise mitigation plan was developed for the Container Terminal area and the network of air quality monitoring stations within the port was expanded.
In the field of Corporate Governance, fundamental Internal Regulations and Policies were issued and updated, ensuring the company’s transparency, accountability and regulatory compliance.
In the social sphere, it is noted that in 2024 the concession fee paid to the State exceeded 8 million euros, while donations and sponsorships within the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility surpassed 565,000.00 euros. Furthermore, the study and licensing of a modern park in the Cruise area, which will be constructed by PPA S.A., was finalized with the aim of addressing the needs of local communities. Simultaneously, PPA S.A.’s staff training hours increased by 31.6%, reflecting the company’s investment in its human capital and workforce.

PPA S.A.: Welcoming Ceremony of “Yuan Hai Kou”
The Port of Piraeus hosted a high-level ceremony on 24 June, 2025, to mark the arrival of the “Yuan Hai Kou,” one of the world’s largest and most advanced vehicle carriers, operated by COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, is 199.9 m long, has a capacity of 7,000 ceu and will be used on a regular line connecting China with the Mediterranean. The vessel is equipped with dual LNG and solar propulsion systems, underscores a growing shift in the maritime sector towards decarbonization and sustainable innovation.
Senior figures from the Greek government, Chinese diplomatic corps and international shipping community, alongside representatives of relevant organizations attended the event. Speakers highlighted the strategic role of the Port of Piraeus in the global supply chain and reaffirmed their commitment to a sustainable future in maritime transport. Αn exclusive tour was provided in the ship’s interior for high-ranking government officials and representatives of the shipping community.
Greece’s Deputy Minister for Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Mr. Stefanos Gikas, highlighted the strategic importance of Piraeus in enhancing port competitiveness through a comprehensive ESG-led approach. “In this landscape of continuous development and responsible growth, the arrival of the ‘Yuan Hai Kou’ symbolizes a new chapter in shipping. Green shipping is gradually moving from theory to practice. As we face the challenge of green transition and decarbonization, we must work together to achieve tangible and lasting results,” he said.
Chinese Ambassador to Greece, Mr. Fang Qiu, framed the event as a symbol of deepening bilateral ties. “Piraeus is more than a commercial port – it is a platform of friendship, mutual trust and shared vision. “Technological cooperation and environmental responsibility are the foundations of a strategic relationship that continues to evolve and grow stronger,” he noted.
Deputy Regional Governor of Piraeus, Ms. Stavroula Antonakou, recognized the port’s crucial role in the broader regional development: “The growth of the Port of Piraeus into a global hub for cargo and passenger transport is a core objective of the Region of Attica’s administration. PPA S.A. has our full support in building a dynamic future for Piraeus and establishing it as the largest port in Southeastern Europe.”
Speaking on behalf of COSCO SHIPPING, Mr. Zhang Wei, Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, emphasized the firm’s broader vision for emissions reduction and operational transformation. “The Yuan Hai Kou is the result of years of investment and engineering,” he said. “It represents our commitment to net-zero operations, green innovation, and redefined industry standards. Selecting Piraeus for its maiden voyage reflects the port’s strategic position in Europe and our trust in its long-term partnership.”
Antonis Venieris, President of the International Maritime Union in Greece, closed the official proceedings by calling on Greek shipping to lead the industry’s green transformation. “With vessels like the Yuan Hai Kou, technology and environmental stewardship converge,” he said. “The Port of Piraeus, as the centre of our maritime ecosystem, has both the privilege and the responsibility to drive this transition.”
In his statement, Mr. Su Xudong described the vessel’s maiden call as “a historic moment” for the port. “The arrival of the ‘Yuan Hai Kou’ at the Port of Piraeus clearly demonstrates that our port is constantly evolving, embracing sustainability, innovation, and forward-thinking”.

PPA S.A.: Solidarity on Board by PPA S.A. The Sailing Ship “Nave Italia” at the Port of Piraeus
PPA S.A., driven by a strong sense of social responsibility and a tangible human-centered approach, welcomed the historic sailing ship “Nave Italia” to the Port of Piraeus on June 18th, which remained berthed at the Cruise Terminal until the end of the week. During its stay, the ship hosted children and young people experiencing mental and emotional challenges, offering them a unique therapeutic and educational experience on board.
True to its values of inclusion, solidarity and social cohesion, PPA S.A. actively supports this important initiative by providing various forms of assistance. It is noted that on Wednesday, June 18th, the vessel was visited by the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Greece, underscoring the emblematic significance of the “Nave Italia” mission and honoring Greek-Italian cooperation in the field of social solidarity.
“Nave Italia” is a brig-rigged sailing ship, 61 meters in length with a sail area of 1,300 square meters, and it is considered the largest vessel of its kind in the world. Since 2007, it has been part of the Italian Navy fleet and is operated by the non-profit Foundation “Tender to Nave Italia”, established by the Italian Navy and the Yacht Club Italiano. The vessel can accommodate up to 22 guests in addition to the crew and serves as a unique setting for the implementation of research, educational, training, and therapeutic programs.
Specifically, the ship’s crew, in collaboration with the Foundation’s specialized scientific and pedagogical team, implements innovative adventure therapy programs designed to enhance self-esteem, team spirit and the psychological empowerment of children and young people facing psychosocial challenges.
The mission of “Nave Italia” is encapsulated in promoting an authentic culture of inclusion and respect for diversity, with the ultimate aim of combating social exclusion, eliminating prejudice and empowering the most vulnerable members of society.

PPA S.A.: Resumption of Operations of the Floating Dock “Piraeus II” at the Perama Ship Repair Zone
Piraeus Port Authority (PPA S.A.) announces the resumption of full operational activity of the Floating Dock “Piraeus II” at the Perama Ship Repair Zone and its delivery for use, following the completion of a series of extensive repair and maintenance works. The dry-docking operations were carried out as part of a special survey and were successfully concluded with the issuance of a new five-year operational certificate by the competent Classification Society.
In line with the renewed docking program, the first docking at the Floating Dock “Piraeus II” has already been successfully completed, involving the passenger/vehicle vessel “POSEIDON”, marking the dock’s return to operation and its dynamic re-entry into the ship repair sector.
The upgrade of this dock — measuring 113 meters in length, 18.5 meters in internal width, and offering a lifting capacity of 4,000 tons, with the ability to accommodate vessels with a carrying capacity of up to 7,000 tons — is included in the broader set of developmental interventions, aimed at the radical transformation of the Perama Ship Repair Zone.
The restart of operations of the Floating Dock “Piraeus II”, in full compliance with international safety and operational protocols, constitutes a landmark for strengthening the ship repair activity and the operational capacity of the Perama Ship Repair Zone, as well as for the engagement with the Greek market. Furthermore, it reflects PPA S.A.’s strategy for the continuous upgrading of infrastructure and the enhancement of the Port of Piraeus’ competitiveness.
