Sompo International hires Axa XL’s Huber as Head of Marine & Specialty Insurance for Continental Europe
Sompo International, a leading global provider of commercial and consumer property and casualty (re)insurance, today announced the appointment of René Huber as Head of Marine & Specialty Insurance for Continental Europe. He will be based in Zurich, Switzerland, and report to Ralph Brand, President Continental Europe Insurance.
Mr. Brand said: “The European Specialty market is forecast to grow substantially every year for the next decade. René’s reputation, extensive experience and industry knowledge will be pivotal for Sompo International as we continue to develop our presence in this exciting and constantly evolving area. He will be responsible for developing our Specialty/Marine underwriting and distribution strategy, sustainably growing the book and building a strong team across Continental Europe. I truly look forward to working with him.”
Mr. Huber has over 25 years’ experience in multinational business, with a focus on specialty and marine products. He joins from AXA XL where he was Senior Manager of their Global Programs business.
Sompo International Appoints Stefano Chiurlo as European Head of A&H
Sompo International, a leading global provider of commercial and consumer property and casualty (re)insurance, announced the appointment of Stefano Chiurlo as Head of Accident & Health Europe. He will be based in Milan, Italy.
Patrick Corbett, Executive Vice President, Global Head of Accident & Health at Sompo International Insurance, said: “Stefano is a fantastic addition to the Sompo International team and his appointment is the latest development in the building out of our A&H capability beyond a traditional London wholesale offering into the UK, Europe and around the world.
“He will have responsibility for developing and overseeing the implementation of our A&H underwriting and distribution strategy, bringing our years of expertise in A&H and significant capacity to clients across Europe. His wealth of experience in his field, knowledge of the European and global markets and commercial mindset will be instrumental in driving our ambitious growth strategy.”
Stefano Chiurlo comes to Sompo International with more than 15 years of insurance experience, most recently as Group Head of Health & Accident for the Generali Group. Before joining Sompo International, he held a number of senior technical and leadership roles in the A&H segment with Generali Group, AXA XL, XL Catlin, AXA Italy, ACE and AIG. He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the Università Statale di Milano, Italy.
