HEMEXPO signs MOU with SEKPY at Posidonia 2022
Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers and Exports – a leading suppliers and exporters association for the international shipping sector signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation (MoU) with SEKPY – Hellenic Manufacturers of Defence Material Association – on Tuesday 7 June at the Posidonia Conference and Exhibition in Athens.
The MoU expresses the wish of both organisations to establish greater synergies between the Greek shipping and defence industries, and provides a framework for cooperation in areas of common interest. The two associations aim to strengthen their respective positions in international markets.
With job creation one of the primary objectives set for the new cooperative relationship, HEMEXPO and SEKPY also aim to:
– Increase the turnover and exports of marine and defence equipment manufacturers;- Increase research and technological development, including cross-sector and international collaborations to promote and develop innovative products and services;- Increase product certifications to meet required specifications;- Contribute to the creation of innovative industrial activity for marine equipment within the international market.

Το Συνεδριακό Πρόγραμμα των Ποσειδωνίων 2022 χαράσσει την πορεία σε ταραγμένους καιρούς
Το πρόγραμμα Συνεδρίων και Σεμιναρίων των Ποσειδωνίων 2022 θα εμβαθύνει στα κρίσιμα ζητήματα που αντιμετωπίζει η διεθνής ναυτιλιακή κοινότητα, καθώς η παγκόσμια οικονομία αναζητά αντίδοτα για να επουλώσει τις πληγές από τον συνεχιζόμενο πόλεμο στην Ουκρανία και από τις σοβαρές παρενέργειες της πανδημίας Covid-19.
Ο αντίκτυπος από την εκρηκτική αύξηση των τιμών της ενέργειας, τα προβλήματα στην εφοδιαστική αλυσίδα και τους επερχόμενους νέους περιβαλλοντικούς κανονισμούς, εντείνουν την πίεση στην προσπάθεια πλοιοκτητών και ναυτιλιακών εταιρειών να εξασφαλίσουν κερδοφορία, κεφαλαιακή αξία και αποτελεσματική διαχείριση του 90% του παγκόσμιου εμπορίου. Με τίτλο «Προς έναν ναυτιλιακό κλάδο χωρίς εκπομπές άνθρακα έως το 2050», το σεμινάριο αναμένεται να προσελκύσει ένα ισχυρό κοινό που αποτελείται από πλοιοκτήτες και ειδικούς του ναυτιλιακού κλάδου. Οι συμμετέχοντες θα αποκτήσουν μια βαθύτερη κατανόηση της τρέχουσας κατάστασης του κλάδου των ναυτιλιακών και θαλάσσιων υπηρεσιών, θα ενημερωθούν για τις τελευταίες τάσεις και εξελίξεις στις Η.Π.Α. και θα ακούσουν απόψεις σχετικά με τις ευκαιρίες και τις προκλήσεις που φέρνει το μέλλον.
«Digitalisation Demystified» και «All hands on Deck: Shaping the future of Seafaring» είναι οι τίτλοι των δύο θεματικών ενοτήτων της εναρκτήριας συνόδου του Seatrade Maritime, σε συνεργασία με το Global Maritime Club. Στην εκδήλωση, που έχει προγραμματιστεί για τις 9 Ιουνίου, κεντρικός ομιλητής θα είναι ο Υπουργός Ναυτιλίας και Νησιωτικής Πολιτικής, Γιάννης Πλακιωτάκης. Μεταξύ των επιβεβαιωμένων ομιλητών είναι και οι Ben Palmer OBE της Inmarsat Marine, Sean Fernback της Wartsila Voyage, Mike Κωνσταντινίδης της METIS Cyberspace Technology, Henrik Jensen της Danica Maritime Services GmbH, Δέσποινα Παναγιώτου Θεοδοσίου από την WISTA, Mark O’Neil της Columbia Shipmanagement & InterManager, Γιάννης Πλατσιδάκης της Intercargo και Peter Schellenberg του Thome Group. Ηγέτες της ελληνικής ναυτιλιακής βιομηχανίας και Έλληνες κυβερνητικοί αξιωματούχοι θα ανταλλάξουν γνώσεις και απόψεις για κρίσιμα θέματα σε μια σειρά από συζητήσεις κατά τη διάρκεια του Capital Link Forum που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στις 6 Ιουνίου. Το Φόρουμ θα καλύψει ένα ευρύ φάσμα θεμάτων που επηρεάζουν τον κλάδο, όπως οι προκλήσεις στον εφοδιασμό και τη ζήτηση, το LNG/LPG, η πράσινη ναυτιλία, η ψηφιοποίηση και, όπως πάντα, η χρηματοδότηση και οι δυσκολίες πρόσβασης σε αυτήν. Το Συνέδριο της HELMEPA θα εστιάσει στην Αειφόρο Ναυτιλία με μια ζωντανή συζήτηση τριών γενεών διακεκριμένων Ελλήνων πλοιοκτητών και ηγετών του κλάδου από τη διεθνή κοινότητα, οι οποίοι θα μοιραστούν τις σκέψεις τους πάνω στις βασικές προκλήσεις που αντιμετωπίζει ο κλάδος καθώς προχωρά στο μέλλον και στο πώς έχει εξελιχθεί η ναυτιλία τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες. H εκδήλωση θα πραγματοποιηθεί στις 8 Ιουνίου, μέρα που έχει καθιερωθεί από τον ΟΗΕ ως Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Ωκεανών. «Το συνέδριό μας θα συγκεντρώσει ηγέτες της ναυτιλιακής βιομηχανίας, φορείς χάραξης πολιτικής, κοινωνικούς εταίρους, ακαδημαϊκούς, ρυθμιστικές αρχές και την κοινωνία των πολιτών για να συζητήσουν, να ανταλλάξουν και να μοιραστούν γνώσεις και τεχνογνωσία για τη Βιώσιμη Ναυτιλία, εμπνέοντας τη συλλογική δράση να συμβάλει στο στόχο να σωθούν οι θάλασσες», είπε η Όλγα Σταυροπούλου, Γενική Διευθύντρια της HELMEPA.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της διαδραστικής εκδήλωσης SHARK TANK, νέοι επιχειρηματίες θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να παρουσιάσουν τις ιδέες τους για καινοτόμες τεχνολογίες που προάγουν τη ναυτιλιακή βιομηχανία σε ένα κοινό πλοιοκτητών και πιθανών επενδυτών, οι οποίοι χρησιμοποιώντας εικονικά κεφάλαια θα καθορίσουν εάν θα «επένδυαν» στις παρουσιαζόμενες τεχνολογίες. Η μορφή της εκδήλωσης παρέχει μια εξαιρετική ευκαιρία στους επιχειρηματίες να παρουσιάσουν τις ιδέες τους και να λάβουν άμεσες αντιδράσεις για αυτές από τον κλάδο. Η εκδήλωση της WISTA HELLAS «Γυναίκες στη θάλασσα», με τίτλο «Πόσο κοντά είμαστε στην ποικιλομορφία των φύλων εν πλω;», επιχειρεί να εντοπίσει τους λόγους πίσω από τον περιορισμένο αριθμό γυναικών ναυτικών στα πλοία και να διερευνήσει εάν χρειαζόμαστε πιο αποτελεσματικές πολιτικές για την προώθηση της ναυτικής σταδιοδρομίας των γυναικών, μέσα από μία συζήτηση μεταξύ γυναικών ναυτικών και φορέων της ναυτιλιακής βιομηχανίας. Η Έλπη Πετράκη, Πρόεδρος της WISTA Hellas, δήλωσε: «Σύμφωνα με την τελευταία Έκθεση Ναυτικού Εργατικού Δυναμικού BIMCO/ICS 2021, οι γυναίκες αντιπροσωπεύουν μόλις το 1,28% του παγκόσμιου ναυτικού εργατικού δυναμικού. Αν και υπάρχει αύξηση 45,8% στον αριθμό των γυναικών ναυτικών σε σχέση με το 2015, τα στατιστικά στοιχεία υπογραμμίζουν ότι οι γυναίκες υποεκπροσωπούνται σε μεγάλο βαθμό ως επαγγελματίες ναυτικοί. Αυτό είναι ένα σημαντικό ζήτημα που πρέπει να αντιμετωπιστεί».

A significant number of marine industry-focused tech startups from around the world will showcase their solutions and platforms during Posidonia Exhibition 2022 to be held at Athens’ Metropolitan Expo Centre from 6-10 June. Online marketplaces designed to bridge the gap between marine service suppliers and ship owners & managers and developers of innovative solutions promising to help the industry achieve decarbonisation goals and solve just about any issue they are faced with, will converge on the exhibition floor of the world’s most prestigious shipping event to educate the industry on the latest technological developments and promote their solutions. “Groundbreaking innovations backed up by cutting-edge technologies which are set to transform shipping will be in full display in great numbers this June as the race towards the digitisation of the marine sector is well underway in a market which experts estimate to be worth $345bn by 2030,” said Theodore Vokos, Managing Director, Posidonia Exhibitions S.A. From being the very first enabler of maritime email messaging for fishing vessels operating on the edge of the polar ice fields, Dualog now continuously develops new innovations at sea. “Our customers are looking to enable the integrated ship in their business strategy” said CCO Silje Moan, adding that with more than 5000 vessels in our client portfolio we plan to leverage our Posidonia presence to further reinforce the reputation as the creator of purpose-built email, data transfer, internet management, and cybersecurity solutions for the shipping industry. Shipping 4.0 is the motto of KeeIX, another exhibitor at Posidonia 2022, where it plans to offer free demos to exhibitors who pre-book an appointment. The Singapore-based startup focuses on developing solutions that meet regulatory compliance reporting needs, such as with IMO DCS, EU MRV, CII, EEOI, and AER. “As a key supporter of innovation and collaboration, we continuously seek out ways where we can help our customers achieve sustainable shipping,” said Hong Tin Wei, Head of Partnerships & Finance. “Shipping is one of the oldest and most influential industries, and Posidonia is the home show of the Greek shipowning community with a legacy as long as the industry itself, and so we feel that our presence there will help bridge the gap between the industry’s past and future.” The ever-growing list of tech startups exhibiting at this summer’s Posidonia includes Nereus Digital Bunkers, a Greek marine fuel brokerage and technology company which has developed a marine fuel procurement software with built-in analytics aiming at digitizing the complex fuel procurement ecosystem end to end. The platform provides relevant real-time port information and bunker indication prices in a clear and concise manner. The software provides solutions using sophisticated analytics, oil pricing forecasting, and marine fuel future curves that cover and exceed the needs of the industry across the whole spectrum, from maritime fuel suppliers to purchasers. Founder Nikolas Gkikas believes that demand for green shipping solutions will increase: “The digital processing of ship consumption data will be the basis for decarbonisation. We are keeping up with all the new regulations and try to simplify the reporting procedures and are considering how we will cooperate with major companies that manufacture and monitor main engines so that their data can enter directly into the bunkering department of each shipping company.” Another debutant is MESPAS, a Swiss IT and engineering company. Their technical ship management software enables the maritime industry to run its ships safely and efficiently, resulting in better performance, decreased costs and lower emissions. Their e-trading platform allows ships, management offices and suppliers to digitally place and receive offers, orders and invoices.
MESPAS is the only company in the maritime industry whose products are provided on cloud-based software, with a unique library of millions of machine types, spare parts and documents, all instantly available to our customers to improve their business processes. MESPAS recently opened offices in Athens and Iraklis Tarlas, Area Manager, Greece commented on their Posidonia participation: “We will present a new mobile app for preventive and corrective maintenance, a new product Instant Buy, as well as other new software features. The endless list of tech startups participating at Posidonia this year includes also Opsealog, a French company specialized in performance management, SOL-X, a leading Behavioral Based Safety company initially from California and now based in Singapore, Harbor Lab which was launched in March 2020 in Athens to provide software for the disbursements departments for shipowners, management companies and charterers and TICTAC Recovery, the first Data Recovery Company in Greece operating since 1999, which has saved the day for many companies ever since.

Cancellation of POSIDONIA 2020
It is with a great deal of regret that Posidonia Exhibitions SA is announcing the cancellation of Posidonia 2020, originally planned for June 2020 and subsequently postponed to October 2020.
As the Posidonia Exhibitions informed:
“We have reached this difficult decision following close consultation with many exhibitors and with our shipping community stakeholders, after assessing the current state of Covid-19 in countries around the world.
The worrying increase of cases in certain jurisdictions and the inability to predict reliably where the Pandemic will take us in the months ahead, compounds the uncertainty that now prevails, imposing upon us circumstances that are beyond our control.
Furthermore, the shipment of exhibits and the complexities of international travel which are constantly being re-evaluated as events develop, pose major challenges and practical restrictions to our international exhibitors and visitors, with the distinct possibility that many will not be able to visit Greece. Without them Posidonia would not be the same.
One of the unique characteristics of Posidonia is the opportunities it provides to meet, interact and socialise in and around the exhibition and enjoy the hospitality, energy and fun that surround our event. We are concerned that this special environment that brings together the Greek and international shipping communities is in danger of being undermined due to Covid-19, thus not delivering the results that everyone expects and is looking forward to at Posidonia.
Instead, we are embarking on our preparations for the next Posidonia in June 2022 with optimism and the confidence that well before then we will have entered a world with Covid-19 under control”.
POSIDONIA rescheduled for October 2020
In view of the escalating challenges we all face as a result of the Coronavirus-COVID-19 pandemic and the need to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our exhibitors and visitors while at the same time complying with WHO and Greek Government guidelines, we have decided to postpone Posidonia 2020 from the 1st to 5th June 2020 to the 26th to 30th October 2020 at the Athens Metropolitan Expo, together with all related Posidonia sports events and conferences.
Given the uncertainty currently surrounding our original dates, the international character of Posidonia and the pressure our exhibitors and visitors are under in actioning now their travel and logistical arrangements as well as the shipment of their exhibits, we concluded that we could not delay this decision any longer.
We have taken this step in consultation with Posidonia’s Supporting Organisations who have confirmed their agreement and support for the October dates.
We believe that taking action at this time was necessary for the benefit of our exhibitors, our visitors and the exhibition itself.

Shipping 4.0 Reimagined New Tech Logs In And On Full Display At Posidonia 2020
Tech start-ups and entrepreneurs will wow Posidonia 2020’s visitors and delegates this summer with their latest, high tech, digitally-enabled and data-driven solutions to age-old legacy problems, as well as with a fresher perspective for a more sustainable and efficient future for the shipping industry.
They will showcase transformational technologies with the potential to impact every facet of the marine industry, including safety on board, engine and hull monitoring, multi-channel ship to shore communication, health services on board, business intelligence and analytics, fintech and susceptible cargo monitoring.
“Tracking of cargo at sea, crewless shipping, the digitalisation of maintenance processes and ships controlled remotely from land are just some in a long list of many radical transformational trends, which the maritime industry will be asked to embrace in the not too distant future as the advent of digital technologies continues unabated,” said Theodore Vokos, Managing Director, Posidonia Exhibitions S.A., the organisers of Posidonia.
Such technologies will be displayed in abundance and strategically deployed and showcased at the Digital Innovation Village, the new tech and emerging maritime start-ups pavilion at this year’s Posidonia from 1-5 June.
The Digital Innovation Village is organised in cooperation with the Hellenic Association of Mobile Applications Companies (HAMAC) and is the ideal platform for start-ups and scale-ups to reach out to the maritime industry. Under the theme ‘Blue innovation for sustainable growth’, this pavilion will host innovative new technologies related to the Blue Economy and aims to create collaborations and synergies between the Greek maritime ecosystem and companies new to the sector. Some of the technologies to be showcased include IoT sensors with embedded intelligence and computing, Cybersecurity, Saas (Software as a Service) and Satellite and Hybrid communications. Nereus Maritime Software has already signed up for the DIV and will be showcasing a revolutionary and powerful web-based platform to provide transparency and efficiency to the purchasers of marine fuels.
“Digital transformation is the big challenge for maritime and the Blue Economy, in general. The Digital Innovation Village at Posidonia 2020 will host new innovative companies that will mark the new era. The pioneers will be there,” said Yiannis Kotsis-Giannarakis, General Manager, HAMAC.
Another tech start-up zone at Posidonia 2020 is the SHIPPINGInsight New Tech Pavilion which will feature a range of new technology-driven solutions from the US for the marine industry, with the goal of offering a ‘one-stop shop’ approach. They include Purify Fuel’s fuel nanotechnology, Ultraclean’s desulphurisation products, SPBES’ lithium ion energy storage systems, and SHIPNEXT’S Digital Shipping Marketplace and Transportation Platform. They will also host existing technology with new tech twists such as Marine Armor Defense’s flexible and green coating technology and the Tig Rig wind assist system.

An initiative designed to bring together the best Greek emerging start-ups and SMEs in the Blue Economy with entrepreneurs, investors and industry decision-makers at Posidonia 2020 is the ‘Emerging Maritime Start-ups in Greece’ event, organised by Blue Growth at the Posidonia venue on June 3. Its objective is to generate concrete business opportunities and visibility of business ideas bringing innovation and digitalisation to the Blue Economy. Mature tech start-ups will pitch their projects in the field of shipping, energy and the yachting industry. The start-ups will present next-generation technologies and services and will have the opportunity to develop their network during the event, as the aim is to bring them in touch with potential partners and investors.
And the growing interest and demand for increased collaboration and relationship building between the maritime sector and tech entrepreneurs, who generate the ideas and technologies to redefine the industry, are fueling efforts by Optima-X to build a hub of excellence. Having teamed up with the Greek Ministry for Development and Investments, as well as Fathom World, Optima-X will organise a workshop at Posidonia 2020 designed to promote the work of tech start-ups targeting the Blue Economy.

POSIDONIA 2020 on track to be the biggest ever
The 2020 Posidonia exhibition is on track to set new records in exhibitor numbers and floor space for its upcoming edition this summer, as the world’s most prestigious exhibition in the biennial maritime calendar is entering its sixth consecutive decade of continuous service to the ocean-going Greek shipping community and the international maritime industry. Between June 1 and 5, over 2,000 exhibitors from over 90 countries and tens of thousands of trade visitors from all over the world are expected to walk the 50,000sqm of the Athens Metropolitan Expo, as the exhibition floor and the adjacent conference halls will be brimming with decision-makers and officials of the global shipping community. Greek shipping’s continuous newbuilding appetite, currently set at some 200 newbuildings on order, continuous upgrade of fleet and exploration of new propulsion options, as well as an increased drive for digitalisation, spearhead the continuous growth of Posidonia. But new environmental regulations and their implementation will be on everyone’s mind. Hence, one of the key questions eagerly awaiting an answer at Posidonia 2020 is the impact the first six months of low sulphur regulations implementation will have had on the spirits of an otherwise high-flying sector, which transports 90% of global trade. The Union of Greek Shipowners’ (UGS) President, Theodore Veniamis, said: “This year’s Posidonia Exhibition is taking place at a time that marks major changes in the global shipping industry. The implementation of the global sulphur cap in marine fuels, with whatever challenges this has raised, and the ongoing discussions at the United Nations International Maritime Organization (UN IMO) about the adoption of short and mediumterm measures for the reduction of the CO2 emissions from ships are two of the most important issues that the Union of Greek Shipowners has been actively following. At an EU level, the environmental agenda of the European institutions is also a critical issue that needs awareness and attention on behalf of the shipping industry.
“The shipping industry, indispensable as it is for world trade in essential goods and other cargoes, is fully committed to the climate change agenda for full decarbonisation and has already taken important initiatives in this direction through the UN IMO global regulations. However, full decarbonisation of the shipping sector cannot be achieved without new fuels and propulsion technologies available globally.”

POSIDONIA SEA TOURISM FORUM 2019: Σημάδια ανάκαμψης της κρουαζιέρας στην Αν. Μεσόγειο δημιουργούν νέες ευκαιρίες για τις οικονομίες της περιοχής
Το 5ο Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum, που θα πραγματοποιηθεί 28-29 Μαΐου στο συνεδριακό κέντρο του ξενοδοχείου Domotel Kastri, έχει σκοπό να αναδείξει τις θετικές προοπτικές για τη βιομηχανία κρουαζιέρας στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο. Καθώς σημαντικοί προορισμοί, λιμάνια και χώρες υποδοχής στην περιοχή εμφανίζουν τα πρώτα ελπιδοφόρα σημάδια ανάκαμψης, έπειτα από μια τριετή κρίση λόγω γεωπολιτικών εντάσεων, οι εταιρείες κρουαζιέρας προσβλέπουν σε αυξημένη δραστηριότητα στην σημαντική για την κερδοφορία τους αγορά.
Η ανάκαμψη της περιοχής, που ήρθε νωρίτερα από ό,τι αναμενόταν, στηρίχτηκε σε μεγάλο βαθμό στη συνεπή επίδοση της Ελλάδας ως προορισμού με παγκόσμια απήχηση, που διατήρησε ζωντανή την κρουαζιέρα στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο έως ότου η Τουρκία θα επανέκαμπτε ως ενεργός προορισμός. Εξίσου σημαντική είναι και η σταδιακή επανένταξη του Ισραήλ και της Αιγύπτου στα δρομολόγια, επιδιώκονταςτην επαναλειτουργία δρομολογίων κρουαζιέρας με υψηλή εμπορική αξία, που προσφέρουν μια συνολική εμπειρία της μοναδικής ποικιλομορφίας της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου.
Με την επέκταση του παγκόσμιου στόλου να φέρνει αύξηση της συνολικής διαθεσιμότητας κλινών κατά 7,5%, το 2019 θεωρείται χρονιά νέων στρατηγικών εξελίξεων που θα καταφέρουν να εδραιώσουν ξανά την Ανατολική Μεσόγειο ως κορυφαία περιοχή ανάπτυξης της κρουαζιέρας.
«Βρισκόμαστε μπροστά σε μία χρονιά-ρεκόρ στις ναυπηγήσεις νέων πλοίων, καθώς τα 24 κρουαζιερόπλοια που τίθενται σε λειτουργία το 2019 αποτελούν τον μεγαλύτερο αριθμό που έχει δρομολογηθεί ποτέ μέσα σε μία μόνο χρονιά. Συνολικά, θα προστεθούν στην παγκόσμια δυναμικότητα 42.488 νέες κλίνες, οι οποίες πρέπει να αξιοποιηθούν με επικερδή τρόπο», δήλωσε ο κ. Θεόδωρος Βώκος, Διευθύνων Σύμβουλος της Εκθέσεις Ποσειδώνια Α.Ε., διοργανώτριας του Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum, που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στις 28 και 29 Μαΐου στο Συνεδριακό Κέντρο του ξενοδοχείου Domotel Kastri.
Η Διεθνής Ένωση Εταιρειών Κρουαζιέρας CLIA Europe έχει ήδη επιβεβαιώσει την ενεργή συμμετοχή της στοφετινό Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum και αναμένεται να εκπροσωπηθεί από αντιπροσωπεία υψηλού επιπέδου. Η επιλογή αυτή της CLIA Europe ερμηνεύεται ως μια ξεκάθαρη δήλωση αναφορικά με την εμπορική δυναμική της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου και το μελλοντικό της ρόλο στη βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη της κρουαζιέρας στη Μεσόγειο συνολικά.
