Record-Breaking Posidonia 2026 Delivers Deals, Dialogue and Direction for Shipping’s Future
Posidonia 2026 set a new benchmark for the global maritime industry, bringing together the world’s leading shipping stakeholders at a pivotal moment for international trade. Against a backdrop of geopolitical uncertainty, evolving decarbonisation regulations, digital transformation and mounting pressures on global supply chains, the exhibition provided a unique platform for dialogue, collaboration and deal-making.
Reflecting the significance of the event, IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez, who participated at Posidonia and addressed the opening ceremony, highlighted the exhibition’s unique role in fostering industry engagement.
“Posidonia is a shipping exhibition that has become a maritime institution,” said Dominguez. “Engagement and dialogue are the basis for the business of global shipping. Honest and open conversations and trust-building are central to negotiations at IMO, to reach consensus, built on understanding of everyone’s perspectives.”
Those conversations unfolded throughout the week across conference halls, exhibition stands and networking events, as shipowners, regulators, policymakers and technology providers examined the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of shipping. At the same time, the exhibition floor was transformed into a hub of commercial activity, with exhibitors announcing strategic partnerships, signing memoranda of understanding and unveiling major investment initiatives.
Among the landmark agreements announced during Posidonia 2026 were a series of strategic collaborations and commercial transactions that underscored the industry’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, digital transformation and industrial growth.
Highlights included a Memorandum of Understanding between Skaramangas Shipyards and Hyundai Heavy Industries aimed at strengthening Greece’s shipbuilding capabilities and exploring opportunities in naval and commercial vessel construction. The exhibition also witnessed one of the year’s most significant shipbuilding transactions, with Greek shipowner Dynacom advancing a major VLCC newbuilding programme at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.
Further reinforcing the momentum behind the revitalisation of Greek shipbuilding, ONEX Shipyards and Antipollution signed an agreement for the construction of four advanced anti-pollution vessels at Elefsis Shipyards, with options for additional units. ONEX also announced a strategic cooperation agreement with the Port of Antwerp-Bruges to strengthen connectivity between Greece and Northern Europe through the development of a new “Blue Corridor.”
ABS and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries also signed a joint development agreement to design a U.S.-flagged 50,000 DWT oil and chemical tanker compliant with ABS Rules and U.S. Coast Guard requirements.
Environmental compliance and digitalisation featured prominently among the business announcements, with StormGeo and OceanScore unveiling a collaboration designed to help shipowners navigate increasingly complex emissions regulations. Meanwhile, Samsung Heavy Industries, Lloyd’s Register and Capital Clean Energy Carriers revealed plans to jointly explore floating data centre solutions, highlighting how maritime expertise can support emerging digital infrastructure requirements. A separate agreement between Lloyd’s Register Advisory and Samsung Heavy Industries will further advance the commercialisation of the concept.

Beyond the business deals and announcements, Posidonia 2026 delivered unprecedented levels of participation and engagement. Over 35,000 visitors passed through the halls of the Athens Metropolitan Expo over the course of the week, generating over €100 million in economic activity for the Attica region and reinforcing the exhibition’s importance not only to the maritime sector but also to the wider Greek economy.
The international nature of the event was reflected in the feedback received from government representatives, industry executives and maritime stakeholders from around the world.

Industry participants echoed similar sentiments. George Marinakis, Managing Director of MT Innovative Solutions S.A. (MTIS), said the exhibition confirmed that the future of shipping will be shaped by organisations capable of combining strong partnerships, operational excellence and intelligent use of technology, while Konstantinos Antoniadis, CEO and Co-founder of EMICERT, noted that the event exceeded expectations and provided a valuable platform for dialogue on the future of shipping and sustainability.
For Orestis Schinas, Co-Founder and Academic Lead of HHX.blue, the quality of discussions surrounding finance, decarbonisation, digitalisation and competitiveness demonstrated why Posidonia remains one of the industry’s most influential gatherings and a catalyst for new business opportunities.
While attendance surpassed every previous edition, the record-breaking numbers also highlighted the need for continued investment in infrastructure capable of supporting events of this scale. Posidonia 2028 will be the 30th edition of the world’s most prestigious shipping trade event and will take place from 5-9 June at the same venue.

Posidonia 2026 conference programme kicks off early with geopolitics dominant in industry agenda
From insurance and risk management to energy transition, digitalisation and maritime security, the Posidonia 2026 conference programme highlights an industry actively reshaping itself in response to geopolitical disruption and structural change.
This year’s programme, set to begin weeks ahead of the exhibition itself, reflects a shipping industry navigating one of its most complex operating environments in decades, where war, sanctions, tariffs, insurance premiums, shifting trade routes and regulatory pressure are redefining both risk and opportunity.
The first events begin in early May, underlining how Posidonia has evolved into a multiweek platform for dialogue rather than a single exhibition moment. “Posidonia has always been more than an exhibition. It is a platform where the industry comes together to address real-world challenges and shape its future direction,” said Theodore Vokos, Managing Director, Posidonia Exhibitions S.A. “This year’s conference programme reflects the urgency of the issues facing shipping today, particularly the impact of geopolitics, energy transition and technological change. The discussions taking place, even before the exhibition officially opens, highlight how critical collaboration and dialogue have become for the industry.”
Kicking off the calendar, Marine Insurance Greece (6-7 May) will address how the insurance market is responding to escalating geopolitical tensions and operational risks. On 20 May, the Naftemporiki Shipping Conference, “Shipping Between Global Powers: Where Geopolitics, Energy & Climate Shape the Future”, will further elevate the geopolitical theme, examining how global power dynamics, energy security and climate policy are reshaping shipping. The theme of this year’s event reflects this variability, focusing on the geopolitics of the sea, Greece’s role as an energy hub, the challenges of decarbonization and developments in ports, shipbuilding and key market sectors. “We live in a time when shipping is not just affected by developments, it is at their center,” said Georgios Melissanidis, Publisher, Naftemporiki. “Shifting geopolitical balances and the accelerating energy transition are shaping a new, more demanding environment.”
Once Posidonia week begins, the conference programme intensifies, bringing together some of the industry’s most influential voices.
The Capital Link Maritime Leaders Summit (1 June), held in partnership with DNV, will mark 20 years of convening top-tier shipowners, financiers and policymakers. The agenda reflects real-time global market priorities while highlighting the enduring leadership of the Greek shipping community, a cornerstone of international maritime trade and home to the world’s largest privately owned fleet.
Discussions will span global trade flows, geopolitics, energy transition and technology, with participation from leading Greek and international shipping groups. “Posidonia and our Summit are held at a critical time for the world and shipping,” said Nicolas Bornozis, CEO of Capital Link. “Our Summit brings together industry leaders at the highest level. It features the founders and leaders of Greece’s most influential shipping companies, together with key players from the global maritime industry. These are the leaders shaping where shipping is heading next.”
On 2 June, the TradeWinds Shipowners Forum Greece will tackle “Resilience in the face of disruption”, addressing how shipowners are managing risk in a world of geopolitical fragmentation, economic uncertainty and regulatory pressure. With senior executives from major global shipping companies and financial institutions, the forum will explore how operators can navigate volatility, safeguard asset values and adapt to shifting trade patterns. It will table critical questions such as: how can shipping operate and invest successfully amid geopolitical chaos and how are tensions between US-China and Trump-era policies impacting global trade flows. “As the global shipping landscape grows more complex, our readers need more than news – they need perspective and connection, which comes together in Athens during Posidonia week,” said Julian Bray, Editor in Chief, TradeWinds.
Geopolitical risk and infrastructure security will also take centre stage at a seminar organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Athens under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland within the framework of Poland’s presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea. The seminar seeks to examine the evolving relationship between maritime security and energy security, to identify shared vulnerabilities across Europe’s maritime spaces, and to advance practical cooperation between the Baltic and Mediterranean regions. The focus will also be on the geopolitical dimension of hybrid threats in the maritime space and how the Baltic and Mediterranean maritime spaces, despite their different geopolitical contexts, face comparable structural vulnerabilities.
“Geography separates the Baltic from the Mediterranean, but hybrid threats, sabotage risks, geopolitical competition and energy flows connect them in practice and require coordinated actions,” noted chargé d’affaires at the Embassy, Wojciech Ponikiewski, highlighting the need for coordinated international responses.

Οι απαντήσεις του κλάδου, που συλλέχθηκαν ενόψει της έκθεσης, αποκαλύπτουν τρεις διακριτές προσεγγίσεις: ενεργούς υποστηρικτές που ενσωματώνουν την Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη σε προϊόντα και υπηρεσίες, εταιρείες που υιοθετούν επιλεκτικά την Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη για εσωτερική βελτιστοποίηση, και άλλες που διατηρούν μια προσεκτική στάση, παρατηρώντας τις εξελίξεις.
Νηογνώμονες και εταιρείες τεχνολογίας συγκαταλέγονται μεταξύ των ταχύτερων στην υιοθέτηση. Στον τομέα των τεχνικών υπηρεσιών, η Dynamic Group of Companies αξιοποιεί δεκαετίες δεδομένων συντήρησης πλοίων για να μεταβεί από τις εκ των υστέρων επισκευές στην προγνωστική διαχείριση στόλου. Αναλύοντας δεδομένα από τα αρχεία επισκευών σε κύτη και δεξαμενές έρματος, η εταιρεία ευθυγραμμίζει τους κύκλους συντήρησης των πλοίων λαμβάνοντας υπόψη την οικονομική απόδοση όσο και τους περιβαλλοντικούς στόχους.

Στα Ποσειδώνια 2026, παρουσιάζουμε πώς η σύνθεση ιστορικών δεδομένων και βιομηχανικής ρομποτικής διασφαλίζει ότι ο στόλος σας παραμένει ανταγωνιστικός και παράλληλα συμμορφούμενος με τους κανονισμούς», δήλωσε ο Καπτ. Αντίστοιχα, η Fortune Technologies έχει ενσωματώσει τεχνολογικές ενότητες Τεχνητής Νοημοσύνης στις εταιρικές της πλατφόρμες λογισμικού, αυτοματοποιώντας διαδικασίες και παράγοντας επιχειρησιακά συμπεράσματα για τους διαχειριστές πλοίων. Η Electropneumatic SA ενσωματώνει την Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη στις δραστηριότητες Έρευνας και Ανάπτυξης, ενώ η Endress+Hauser αναμένει επιταχυνόμενη ανάπτυξη στην προγνωστική διάγνωση και την παρακολούθηση της απόδοσης του στόλου.
Ωστόσο, εκτός από εκείνους που υιοθετούν άμεσα τις εξελίξεις, υπάρχουν και εκείνοι που διατηρούν έναν πιο συγκρατημένο τόνο.
Η MAS S.A., η οποία δραστηριοποιείται σε προηγμένα συστήματα αυτοματισμού, εκτιμά ότι η υιοθέτηση της Τεχνητής Νοημοσύνης θα επεκταθεί κυρίως σε εργαλεία υποστήριξης αποφάσεων και σε επίπεδα βελτιστοποίησης, ενώ τα βασικά συστήματα ελέγχου συνεχίζουν να περιορίζονται από τις προκαθορισμένες απαιτήσεις ασφάλειας και ταξινόμησης. Παρόμοια προσέγγιση υιοθετεί και η Navigator Shipping Consultants. Ενώ η Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη υποστηρίζει ήδη την παρακολούθηση εκπομπών και την ανάλυση δεδομένων, οι κρίσιμες επιχειρησιακές αποφάσεις –ιδιαίτερα σε συνθήκες έκτακτης ανάγκης– παραμένουν σαφώς υπό την καθοδήγηση του ανθρώπου.
Η Δανάη Μπεζαντάκου, Διευθύνουσα Σύμβουλος της Navigator Shipping Consultants, δήλωσε: «Οι ναυτιλιακές λειτουργίες απαιτούν συνεχή ανθρώπινη συμμετοχή, απευθείας επικοινωνία, άμεση παρέμβαση και την ικανότητα αξιολόγησης και διαχείρισης καταστάσεων κατά περίπτωση. Οι επιχειρησιακές προκλήσεις, η σύνθετη λήψη αποφάσεων και, πάνω απ’ όλα, οι καταστάσεις έκτακτης ανάγκης δεν μπορούν να αντιμετωπιστούν πλήρως μόνο από πλατφόρμες ή αυτοματοποιημένα συστήματα».
Η ρυθμιστική διάσταση διαμορφώνει επίσης τη στάση του κλάδου. Η Normec Verifavia, που δραστηριοποιείται στην επαλήθευση και τον έλεγχο εκπομπών, τονίζει την αναγκαιότητα για ανιχνεύσιμα και ελέγξιμα πλαίσια Τεχνητής Νοημοσύνης σε έναν αυστηρά ρυθμιζόμενο τομέα. Η περιβαλλοντική συμμόρφωση θεωρείται ευρέως ως καταλύτης. Οι πιέσεις για απανθρακοποίηση, η παρακολούθηση της απόδοσης κατά CII και οι απαιτήσεις του EU ETS επιταχύνουν τη ζήτηση για ψηφιακά εργαλεία ικανά να διαχειρίζονται πολύπλοκα σύνολα δεδομένων και να βελτιώνουν τους δείκτες αποδοτικότητας.
Στις υπηρεσίες εφοδιασμού και υποστήριξης, εταιρείες όπως η Royal Blue Logistics και η Adamar International Maritime Services αναφέρουν ότι χρησιμοποιούν εργαλεία βασισμένα στην Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη για τη βελτίωση του προγραμματισμού αποθεμάτων και την πρόβλεψη λειτουργιών, τονίζουν ωστόσο ότι η εφαρμογή παραμένει επιλεκτική.
Ο Taner Topkara, Γενικός Διευθυντής της Adamar, δήλωσε: «Η Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη έχει γίνει απαραίτητο συστατικό στους περισσότερους κλάδους, συμπεριλαμβανομένου του ναυτιλιακού τομέα, και η επιρροή της συνεχίζει να αυξάνεται. Η Adamar, χωρίς να εξαλείφει τον ανθρώπινο παράγοντα, χρησιμοποιεί ήδη προηγμένες ψηφιακές τεχνολογίες και ενσωματώνει ενεργά λύσεις βασισμένες στην Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη για να ανταποκριθεί στις αναδυόμενες απαιτήσεις του κλάδου, ιδίως στην ενίσχυση της λειτουργικής αποτελεσματικότητας, της βελτιστοποίησης του εφοδιασμού και τον προγραμματισμό αποθεμάτων για ναυτιλιακές εταιρείες».
Ίσως το πιο κοινό συμπέρασμα της έρευνας είναι ότι η Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη δεν θα αντικαταστήσει αλλά θα ενισχύσει το ανθρώπινο στοιχείο. Από τα ναυπηγεία έως τους επιθεωρητές, τα στελέχη τονίζουν ότι οι ναυτιλιακές δραστηριότητες περιλαμβάνουν δυναμική λήψη αποφάσεων σε πραγματικό χρόνο και σε απρόβλεπτα περιβάλλοντα. Ο αυτοματισμός μπορεί να αυξήσει την αποτελεσματικότητα και να μειώσει τον κίνδυνο, αλλά η λογοδοσία, η ασφάλεια και η λειτουργική εμπιστοσύνη παραμένουν ανθρώπινες ευθύνες.
Οι οικονομικές παράμετροι μετριάζουν περαιτέρω τους ρυθμούς υιοθέτησης της Τεχνητής Νοημοσύνης. Η απόδοση της επένδυσης, η συνεργασία στο οικοσύστημα δεδομένων και η ανθεκτικότητα στην κυβερνοασφάλεια αναφέρονται επανειλημμένα ως προϋποθέσεις για ευρύτερη ενσωμάτωση του ΑΙ.
Καθώς πλησιάζουν τα Ποσειδώνια 2026, οι λύσεις Τεχνητής Νοημοσύνης αναμένεται να αποτελέσουν σημείο μεγάλου ενδιαφέροντος στους εκθεσιακούς χώρους και τις συζητήσεις των συνεδρίων της διοργάνωσης. Ωστόσο, αντί να σηματοδοτείται μια ξαφνική τεχνολογική ανατροπή, ο κλάδος φαίνεται να βαδίζει σε έναν σταδιακό μετασχηματισμό, συνεπή με τη μακροχρόνια κουλτούρα του, και να υιοθετεί την καινοτομία με μέτρο.
Ο Θεόδωρος Βώκος πρόσθεσε: «Η ναυτιλία ιστορικά ισορροπεί ανάμεσα στην παράδοση και την τεχνολογική πρόοδο. Η Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη αντιπροσωπεύει το πιο πρόσφατο κεφάλαιο αυτής της εξέλιξης. Στα Ποσειδώνια 2026, η συζήτηση δεν θα επικεντρωθεί στο αν η Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη έχει θέση στις ναυτιλιακές λειτουργίες, αλλά στο πώς, πού και πόσο γρήγορα πρέπει να αναπτυχθεί. Η επικρατούσα άποψη του κλάδου υποδηλώνει ότι η πορεία της Τεχνητής Νοημοσύνης έχει ήδη χαραχθεί. Ο ρυθμός, ωστόσο, θα παραμείνει χαρακτηριστικά ναυτιλιακός, μοιάζοντας με την αναστροφή ενός δεξαμενόπλοιου σε ανοιχτή θάλασσα: σταθερός, μελετημένος και καθοδηγούμενος από την ασφάλεια, το ρυθμιστικό πλαίσιο και τον επιχειρησιακό ρεαλισμό».
Τα Ποσειδώνια 2026 διοργανώνονται υπό την αιγίδα του Υπουργείου Ναυτιλίας και Νησιωτικής Πολιτικής, του Ναυτικού Επιμελητηρίου της Ελλάδος και της Ένωσης Ελλήνων Εφοπλιστών, με την υποστήριξη του Δήμου Πειραιά και της Επιτροπής Ελληνικής Ναυτιλιακής Συνεργασίας.
Posidonia 2026 set to break all records as duration of Shipping Gathering extends
The world’s most prestigious shipping exhibition is now also set to become the longest in duration shipping event, as Posidonia 2026 prepares to engage the global maritime community over a three-week period filled with conferences, networking, social and sporting events. Activities will begin in early-May and culminate during Posidonia Week, which officially takes place from 1–5 June.
With 50,000 square metres of exhibition space at the Metropolitan Expo sold out months in advance, thousands of exhibitors and visitors from 140 countries will once again converge on Athens. Posidonia 2026 is eagerly anticipated across a broad spectrum of the local economy, including hotels, catering and restaurants, transport and mobility providers, entertainment and sporting venues and stand builders, amongst others. The event is expected to contribute over €100m to the economy of Attica and neighbouring tourism destinations.
Theodore Vokos, Managing Director of Posidonia Exhibitions S.A., said: “The economic and business impact of Posidonia now begins nearly three weeks before the official opening, as conferences, business meetings, industry gatherings and sporting events are increasingly scheduled ahead of the traditionally crowded Posidonia week. With many events staged during the preceding 15-day period, the overall Posidonia timeframe has expanded significantly. This extended activity cycle is expected to deliver even greater benefits to the local economy, with hotel and event-space bookings already exceeding 2024 levels.”
He added: “Posidonia is returning with greater strength and scale than ever before, driven by the industry’s renewed momentum and a shared commitment to maintaining the exhibition’s status as an unmissable biennial meeting point for the global maritime community – a place to connect, exchange ideas and collaborate now and into the future. No other shipping event attracts as many shipping ministers, presidents of international organisations, Greek and international shipowners and senior shipping executives.”
As the home show of the Union of Greek Shipowners (UGS) – the world’s largest and most influential shipowners’ association – Posidonia has long served as a magnet for not only for shipyards and maritime equipment and service providers, but also for the finance, insurance and technology sectors, reflecting the UGS’s collective strength and expanding orderbook. In 2025, Greek shipowners placed 250 newbuilding orders. Greek shipowners also rank second worldwide in second-hand vessel acquisitions, with around 260 purchases concluding last year, surpassed only by China*.
Germany and Italy will return with national pavilions after prolonged absence, with their ship equipment manufacturers and services providers showcasing their offering. To accommodate strong demand, the organisers utilized all available space to welcome some 40 new and returning exhibitors, including start-ups, technology innovators and shipyards from the Far East and Australia.
With shipping facing plenty of headwinds at the moment in a challenging international environment, a lot is to be debated at Posidonia. According to the head of research and valuations of Cass Technava, Eva Tzima: “Topics to be discussed will include geopolitics, environmental regulatory requirements, and of course technological advancements and the possible benefits the use of AI could offer to shipping. It goes without saying that while all these areas are of high interest to the industry, geopolitical developments are expected to dominate discussions, not only because they continue to shape market supply and demand dynamics, but also because their impact has been extending across other areas of interest, as evidenced by the delay in IMO’s net zero framework adoption voted last year, following intensive lobbying from the U.S. administration.”
The Posidonia 2026 Conference Programme is already taking shape. The Marine Insurance Greece and RightShip conferences will open proceedings in early May with a focus on risk management and maritime risk and security. The TradeWinds Shipowners Forum 2026 will take place on the second day of the exhibition, bringing together leading shipowners to debate the industry’s most pressing challenges, followed by the HELMEPA Conference, which will address environmental and sustainability issues. Among the highlights will be the SNAME Conference, titled “The Greek Shipyard Renaissance: Rebuilding Capacity, Restoring Leadership”, which will explore the future of Greece’s resurgent shipyard sector.
The Posidonia Games continue to expand into a major sporting and social platform and create their own maritime ecosystem, now comprising a full Posidonia sports weekend ahead of the exhibition. A new addition for 2026 is the Posidonia Tour, a challenging cycling event that will take participants along one of the world’s most scenic routes, from Syntagma Square in central Athens to the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion. Around 300 cyclists are expected to take part. Established sailing, football, golf, 3×3 basketball and running events will also return, drawing more than 4,000 shipping professionals.
