Piraeus Port Authority S.A. and the National Technical University of Athens Sign Memorandum of Understanding

Piraeus Port Authority S.A. (PPA S.A.) and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), launching a strategic collaboration in the fields of research, technological advancement, and sustainable port development.
The Memorandum aims to strengthen cooperation between the academic community and the port industry through joint initiatives in areas such as smart port technologies, digital transformation, environmental sustainability, maritime safety, and logistics. It also establishes a framework for collaborative research, knowledge exchange, and educational activities, fostering the development of advanced solutions for the maritime sector.
On the signing, the Chairman of PPA S.A., Mr. Han Chao stated:
“Our cooperation with the National Technical University of Athens marks an important step in strengthening the connection between academia and the port industry. By leveraging NTUA’s scientific expertise alongside PPA’s operational experience, we are creating the conditions to develop advanced solutions that will support the sustainable development of the Port of Piraeus.”

Delegation of SELPE Visits Piraeus Port Authority

PPA S.A. welcomed a delegation from the Hellenic Retail Business Association (SELPE), led by the President of SELPE and PLAISIO S.A., Mr. Kostas Gerardos, to the Company’s headquarters on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The meeting focused on matters concerning the operation of the Port of Piraeus and the prospects for further cooperation between the two entities.
The SELPE delegation was welcomed by PPA S.A.’s Deputy Chief Executive Officers, Mr. Angelos Karakostas and Mr. Panagiotis Tsonis. Discussions focused on port operations and the efficient management of cargo flows. Both parties also exchanged views on recent developments in transportation, logistics, supply chain management, and the retail sector.
The SELPE representatives were briefed on the operational capabilities and modern infrastructure of the Port of Piraeus, which plays a strategic role as a key hub for Greece and the wider Southeastern European region.
The visit also included a guided tour of the port’s key operational areas, during which participants were introduced to the port’s facilities, operational procedures, and services that support efficient cargo handling and supply chain operations.
The visit took place in a particularly positive atmosphere and reaffirmed the importance of ongoing collaboration, aiming to strengthen competitiveness, promote international outreach, and foster the sustainable development of the Greek economy.

PPA S.A.: Piraeus Port Authority inaugurates the 2026 cruise season – New passenger record in 2025

Piraeus Port Authority S.A. (PPA S.A.) inaugurated the 2026 cruise season with the arrival of the first cruise ships of the year, marking the beginning of a new dynamic period for cruise activity at the Port of Piraeus.
More specifically, representatives of PPA S.A. welcomed at Passenger Terminal A “Miaoulis” the Viking Vesta, the newest vessel of Viking Cruises, which is scheduled to call at the Port of Piraeus a total of 12 more times during 2026, further strengthening the company’s long-standing cooperation with Greece’s largest port.
In addition, executives of PPA S.A. also visited the cruise ship MSC Lirica, which is expected to call at the Port of Piraeus 13 times during 2026, performing partial passenger disembarkation. This confirms the continuous presence and cooperation of leading international cruise companies with the Port of Piraeus.
During 2025, the Port of Piraeus welcomed 863 cruise ships, while the total number of cruise passengers reached approximately 1.85 million, a new milestone that highlights the steadily strengthening position of Piraeus as a leading cruise destination in the Eastern Mediterranean.
On the occasion of the launch of the 2026 cruise season, the CEO of Piraeus Port Authority S.A., Mr. Su Xudong, underlined the steadily increasing momentum of cruise activity in Piraeus, noting that the port’s strategic geographical location, combined with ongoing investments and the systematic upgrading of infrastructure and services, contributes substantially to the sustainable development of the sector.

PPA S.A.: Two awards for Piraeus Port Authority contribution to the Greek Economy Industry Leader in Port Authorities and Greek Business Champion

Piraeus Port Authority S.A. received two prestigious distinctions for its significant contribution to the Greece’s economy at the “Protagonists of the Greek Economy” awards, organized by the Direction Business Network under the auspices of the Ministry of Development.
PPA S.A. was honored with the “Industry Leader in Port Authorities” recognizing its position in the sector based on its turnover, profits before taxes and cash reserves for the fiscal year 2022. Additionally, the Company received the “Greek Business Champions” award, which is given to companies with a turnover exceeding 10 million euros and have achieved more than 20% growth in both turnover and profits before taxes during the fiscal years 2022 and 2021. The Deputy CEO of PPA S.A., Mr. Angelos Karakostas accepted the awards on behalf of the Company.
On the occasion of these important distinctions received, the CEO of PPA S.A., Mr. Su Xudong, expressed his satisfaction with the Company’s continuous and steadily upward economic trajectory, emphasizing that these results are neither coincidental nor temporary. They are the outcome of systematic work and the faithful implementation of a strategic plan aimed at establishing Piraeus as one of the top ports in the Mediterranean and Europe over time. The award ceremony took place on Monday, July 15th, marking the 9th consecutive year of the event.
One more important investment is implemented by the Piraeus Port Authority

The inauguration ceremony for the project “Completion of the Expansion of RoRo – Heracleous Port” took place yesterday at the Car Terminal of PPA S.A.
It is a project with a total investment of €20 million which is included in the Mandatory Investments of PPA S.A., within the framework of the agreement with the Greek State. This project will further improve the competitiveness and attractiveness of the port as a vehicle transshipment hub in the Mediterranean.
The expansion of the Car Terminal by approximately 40,000 m2 towards the northern side of the port, increases the total area of the New Terminal to 110,000 m2, which overall creates car storage space with a capacity of 5,100 cars, thus contributing to the further development of the Piraeus Port Authority.
The Chairman of PPA S.A. Mr. Yu Zenggang stated: “Today another one step was taken towards the realization of COSCO SHIPPING’s holistic vision for the Port of Piraeus. The Expansion of the Car Terminal will act as a driver of development for the wider area. We would like to thank the Greek Government for the excellent cooperation and we will continue to cooperate for the promotion of the Port of Piraeus as one of the top ports in the world and to further increase our positive footprint in Greek society and economy”.
The implementation of this great project was welcomed at the event by the Minister of Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy, Mr. Christos Stylianides, who represented the Prime Minister and the Greek Government and stated: “The completion of this investment, totaling 20,000,000 euros and the expansion of 40,000 sq.m., is an important achievement, as it creates new perspectives for the port of Piraeus. At the same time, it will significantly strengthen the competitiveness and attractiveness of the country’s biggest port”. Mr. Stylianides also pointed out that “with the implementation of this pivotal project, the government’s strategic commitment to development and innovation is confirmed. At the same time, the leadership of our country in the world of shipping, is being enhanced.”
Also, the inauguration ceremony honored with their presence the Minister of Economy & Finance Mr. Kostis Hatzidakis, who mentioned: “The positive developments in the port of Piraeus are a substantial contribution to economic development for the benefit of all Greeks! Today’s expansion of the car terminal at Herakleous Port will be followed by many more projects to upgrade the country’s port infrastructure in the coming months and years. The policy we are implementing – as Government and as HRADF – for the utilization of Public Property in the biggest Greek ports, will
create benefits for Greece. And we are only at the beginning!”, as well as the Minister of Infrastructure & Mr. Christos Staikouras who pointed out: “Piraeus is, today, one of the fastest growing ports in the world. With the PPA adding economic value to the country equal to 1.56% of its GDP. Having this value as a given, but also taking advantage of the experience of the development of the contractual relationship of the parties (Hellenic State, COSCO, TAIPED) in the previous years, we proceeded in 2021, to amend the Concession agreement, in order to ensure its smooth execution. The result of this new, functional and balanced contract is the implementation of investments, such as the one we are inaugurating today, which concerns the expansion of the Car Terminal.
The event was also attended H.E. the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Greece Mr. Xiao Junzheng, who highlighted: “Piraeus Port has become one of the most important transportation hubs for Chinese vehicles exported to Europe. It is worth mentioning that in 2023, the Chinese vehicle brand “MG Motor” and the Chinese high-end smart electric vehicle brand “Seres” entered the Greek market for the first time. The entry of Chinese electric vehicles into Europe and Greece not only promotes the green transformation of transportation in Europe and Greece but also effectively promotes the rapid development of the roll-on/roll-off business in Piraeus Port”.
The ceremony of blessing was performed by the Metropolitan of Nicaea, Mr. Alexios, in the presence of important government and institutional representatives.
Piraeus Port Authority / PPA S.A. – COSCO SHIPPING supports the work of “MISSION”

A meeting with His Eminence the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Mr. Ieronymos had a delegation of executives from the Piraeus Port Authority / PPA S.A. – COSCO SHPPING which was consisted by Mr. Savvas Sanodizis, Manager of the Board of Directors Secretariat, Public and Investor Relations, Ms. Zoe Athanasoglou, Manager of Free Zone and other Customs Procedures and Mr. Nektarios Demenopoulos, Deputy Manager of the Board of Directors Secretariat, Public and Investor Relations.
The Piraeus Port Authority / PPA S.A. – COSCO SHPPING supports the humanitarian and social work of the Charitable Organization “MISSION” of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, by providing storage space for humanitarian aid aiming at covering needs from natural disasters in Greece and abroad.
The Archbishop Mr. Ieronymos, in recognition of this contribution and social support to the work of “MISSION”, offered an honorary plaque for the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PPA S.A. Mr. Yu Zenggang.
Mr. Nektarios Demenopoulos, on behalf of PPA, offered commemorative albums to the Archbishop and to the General Manager of “MISSION”, Mr. Konstantinos Dimtsas. The meeting attended the General Manager of “MISSION” Mr. Konstantinos Dimtsas and the Public Relations Officer of the Organization, Mr. Ioannis Petalas. During the meeting, the social responsibility program of PPA S.A was presented, which is part of a wider corporate responsibility strategy and includes a series of important initiatives and actions aimed at strengthening and wider support of the local community, the port’s neighboring municipalities and its employees.
An indicative example is the systematic cooperation of PPA S.A. with the Holy Diocese of Piraeus for the support of the Diocese’s charity work through the strengthening of the charity meals, as well as the gifts’ offer to children of families in the wider area of Piraeus. Also, PPA S.A. supports the local Social Groceries and contributes on a monthly basis for the purchase of necessary products and food for their operation.
The delegation of PPA S.A. pointed out to His Eminence their support for the work of “MISSION”, highlighting the importance of bringing together all forces of social contribution. Finally, they congratulated the Management of “MISSION” for its executives and people, who, inspired and dedicated, fulfill their duty of strengthening social protection and social cohesion.
Piraeus Port Authority sets high standards for sustainability to drive change, build trust and maintain growth

At a ceremony held during international shipping exhibition Posidonia, Capt. Weng Lin, PPA Deputy CEO, was presented with certifications against of ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management, ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management, and ISO 50001:2018 for Energy Management, by Mr. Stuart Kelly, LRQA Global Sales Director, Business Assurance. This demonstrates the company’s commitment to best practice for quality, environmental and energy management.
PPA’s certification commenced against ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 with LR in 2013. The full spectrum of certifications is covering the Provision of Port Cruise, Ferry, RoRo & Container Terminal Services, management of Logistics Centre, provision of Dry Docking Services for the Repair of Vessels and sub-concessions of berthing posts and land space for the repair of vessels, as well as Port Construction & Maintenance Projects, therefore demonstrating PPA’s strong commitment towards continual improvement and operational excellence across its very broad scope of activity.
PPA’s Deputy CEO Captain Weng Lin stated: “Feeling proud to receive our certificates by LRQA for the excellence of our actions towards continuous improvement of port services and decarbonization. Piraeus Port Authority: Development of activities – Fundamental Financial Figures for the third quarter of the financial year 2021

In response to the letter of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission with protocol number 2596/ 09.11.2021 in the context of informing the investing public about the ongoing pandemic of the coronavirus Covid-19, “PIRAEUS PORT AUTHORITY S.A.” presents the basic financial for the nine months of the current year which are unaudited by a certified auditor, and the general developments in its activity.
Revenue, earnings before income tax and interest (EBIT) and depreciation (EBITDA) for the third quarter of 2021 and on a cumulative basis as well as the corresponding comparative figures of 2020.
Revenues amounted to Euro 113,850 thousand for the period 01.01.2021‐30.09.2021 and Euro 41,851 thousand for the third quarter of 2021, while amounted to Euro 99,381 thousand and Euro 32,878 thousand in the comparative periods in 2020, presenting an increase of 14.56% and 27.29% respectively.
Gross profit amounted to Euro 55,781 thousand for the period 01.01.2021‐30.09.2021 and Euro 22,364 thousand for the third quarter of 2021, while amounted to Euro 45,324 thousand and Euro 15,414 thousand in the comparative periods’ in 2020, presenting an increase of 23,07% and 45,09% respectively.
Earnings before Tax, Interest, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) amounted to Euro 54,021 thousand for the period 01.01.2021‐30.09.2021 and Euro 22,673 thousand for the third quarter, while amounted to Euro 46,676 thousand and Euro 15,580 thousand in the comparative periods in 2020, showing an increase of 15.74% and 45.53% respectively.
Earnings before Tax and Interest (EBIT) amounted to Euro 40,619 thousand for the period 01.01.2021‐30.09.2021 and Euro 18,180 thousand for the third quarter of 2021, while amounted to Euro 33,479 thousand and Euro 11,187 thousand in the comparative periods’ in 2020, present an increase of 21.33 % and 62.51% respectively.
Profits before taxes amounted to Euro 38,213 thousand in the period 01.01.2021‐30.09.2021 and to Euro 17,375 thousand in the third quarter 2021, compared to Euro 31,365 thousand and Euro 10,519 thousand in the respective periods of the previous year 2020, showing an increase of 21.83% and 65.18% respectively.
Profit before income taxes amounted to Euro 29,099 thousand for the period 01.01.2021‐30.09.2021 and Euro 14,005 thousand for the third quarter of 2021, while amounted to Euro 23,534 thousand and Euro 8,012 thousand in the comparative periods in 2020, showing an increase of 23.65% and 74.79% respectively.
MANAGEMENT COMMENTS ON FIGURES DECREASE – REFERENCE TO AREAS OF ACTIVITY (SEGMENTS)
The gradual exit of the economies, in the second half of 2021, from the containment measures due to the pandemic, contributed to the recovery of cargo and passenger traffic. The resumption of the cruise in Greece took place in the second half of the year (May 14) and since the industry stopped in 2020, the comparison is exceptionally made with 2019. The number of cruise ships that arrived in the first half of 2021 is reduced by 43.2% compared to of the first half of 2019 (272 against 479 in 2019). A decrease of 75.6% is recorded in passengers compared to 2019 (205,760 against 844,673 in 2019). In the nine-month period, in the coastal sector there is an increase of 8% in passenger traffic (from 8.7 million to 9.4 million) and 7.5% in the passage of vehicles (from 1.8 million to 1.9 million) compared to the same period of 2020. In Container Terminal an increase of 16.6% is recorded in the total throughput (from 399,285 TEU to 465,584 TEU). This increase is due to increased handling of domestic cargo by 29.2% (from 69,091 to 89,246 TEU) and an increase in transhipment by 14% (from 330,194 TEU to 376,338 TEU). In the same one-month period at the car terminal it was recorded an increase of 48.8% (from 210,930 to 313,809) in the total cargo as both the domestic (22.9%) and the transhipment cargo increased (59.8%). In the ship repair sector, the serviced ships at the dry docks increased by 13.7% (from 95 to 108) in the nine-month period compared to 2019, but a decrease (8.2%) was recorded in the ships at the Ship Repair Zone (from 207 to 190).
2. Significant changes in borrowings and / or capital structure as well as to other significant figures of the financial position statement during the third quarter of 2021.
The total borrowings of the Company amounted to Euro 47.5 million on 30.09.2021, compared to Euro 50.5 million on 31.12.2020 due to the repayment of 2 installments of the current loans.
Cash and cash equivalents amounted to Euro 109.7 million on 30.09.2021, compared to Euro 111.4 million on 31.12.2020. The financial liquidity of the Company is very strong taking into account the repayment of the dividend for the year 2020 amounting to Euro 10,000 thousand that took place in the third quarter of 2021.
In addition, the investment activity of the Company continues based on its business plan and within the third quarter of 2021, investments carried out of Euro 13.6 million compared to Euro 4.1 million were made in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Shareholders equity amounted to Euro 264.9 million on 30.09.2021, compared to Euro 246.0 million on 31.12.2020.
Piraeus Port Authority S.A. awarded with three ISO management system certificates by Lloyd’s Register (LR)

Piraeus Port Authority S.A. (PPA S.A.) awarded with three ISO management system certificates by Lloyd’s Register (LR) in a virtual ceremony on 9th December, showcasing PPA’s commitment to best practice in quality, environment and energy management processes and systems.
PPA was first certified by LR to the internationally recognised quality management system ISO 9001 and environment management system ISO 14001 in 2013 for the provision of Port Cruise Services. In 2018, the certification scope was extended to cover the provision of Port Ferry, Ro-Ro and Container Terminal services as well as the management of Logistics centre and the management of port construction and maintenance projects. Recently the scope of certification has been extended again to include a number of additional key activities, including the Provision of Dry-docking services for the repair of vessels (two Graving Docks at Akti Vassiliadis and three Floating Docks at Perama Ship Repair Zone), sub-concessions of berthing posts, land space for the repair of vessels (Perama Ship Repair Zone, Drapetsona Pier, DEI Pier) and the management of co-funded projects.
During the ceremony, PPA S.A. was also granted certification for ISO 50001 for the company’s Energy Management System by LR, for the first time.
PPA’s Acting CEO, Mr. Zhang Anming stated: “PPA is constantly seeking the improvement on quality, environmental protection and energy management. That’s why, we have included in our strategic goals, the certifications according to internationally recognised ISO management systems standards. With this extension, PPA has achieved the certification as per ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 for all its activities and for first time for the Energy Management. Through this Integrated Quality, Environmental & Energy Management System, PPA SA will operate in a consistent way to understand and satisfy customers’ needs and expectations, continually improve the quality of services provided, and to operate Piraeus with an environmentally friendly way, reducing carbon emission”.
