Deutsche Bank Mourns the Passing of Kimberly Hammonds, A Former Member of the Management Board

Kimberly Hammonds’ untimely passing fills us with deep sadness. In her five years at Deutsche Bank from 2013 to 2018, two of which were spent on our Management Board, she made a lasting contribution – with her fresh perspective and courage to make profound changes. She laid the foundations upon which we further modernised our technology and digitalised our business.
We honour Kim Hammonds’ memory. Our thoughts and deep condolences are with her family.

Everest Mourns the Passing of Chief Risk Officer & Chief Actuary, Don Mango

Everest Re Group, Ltd. announced with great sorrow the passing of Don Mango, the company’s Chief Risk Officer and Chief Actuary. Don was a respected industry leader and played a key role in elevating the company’s culture of rigorous risk management. Ari Moskowitz, Everest Reinsurance Chief Operations Officer and Chief Pricing Actuary has been appointed Everest Group Chief Risk Officer to lead the risk function and carry Don’s legacy forward.
Don’s contributions to the risk management and actuarial community were widely recognized throughout his three-decade long career. He was a prolific prize-winning author and researcher, published broadly across actuarial journals and was an Adjunct Lecturer at the Columbia University School of Professional Studies. Don served two terms on the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) Board, four years as CAS Vice President of Research and Development and was honored with the CAS Matthew Rodermund Memorial Service Award for his achievements.
“With Don’s passing, we lost a beloved colleague and friend. Don was a legend in our industry and had an immeasurable impact on Everest’s business and culture,” said Juan C. Andrade, Everest President and CEO. “He was deeply committed to supporting the next generation of risk management leaders. To honor his legacy, Everest is establishing the Don Mango Scholarship at the Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University. Additionally, we are creating the Don Mango Award for Innovation to recognize Everest colleagues who demonstrate excellence within our company.”
Andrade concluded, “Don’s tireless pursuit of innovation in the risk profession is an inspiration, and Ari demonstrates this same passion and commitment. We look forward to working with him to advance this vision.”
Ari will report to Jim Williamson, Group Chief Operating Officer and Head of Everest Reinsurance. He will be responsible for the company’s risk management strategy, enterprise risk management framework and related Group processes, including capital performance management.
Ari brings deep experience in risk management and reinsurance to his new role. Most recently, he was Everest Reinsurance’s Chief Operations Officer and Chief Pricing Actuary. For nearly a decade at Everest, Ari has played a key role in integrating risk discipline within the Reinsurance business. Throughout his career, Ari served in increasingly senior actuarial roles at various global reinsurance and insurance organizations. Ari is a passionate steward of talent and an advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion at Everest and industry wide.

Talanx Group mourns the passing of Wolf-Dieter Baumgartl, long-serving Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Supervisory Board

Wolf-Dieter Baumgartl served as Chairman of the Board of Management of HDI V.a.G. from 1993 to 2006 and Chief Executive Officer of Talanx AG from 2000 to 2006. In 2006 he became Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of HDI V.a.G. and Talanx AG until stepping down in 2018. A fully qualified lawyer, he was also a member of the Supervisory Board of Hannover Rück SE from 1993 onwards, which he chaired until 2009. He had previously served as Chief Executive Officer of AMB Aachener und Münchener Beteiligungs-Aktiengesellschaft until 1993.
As Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Wolf-Dieter Baumgartl led HDI Versicherungsverein auf Gegenseitigkeit with courage and foresight through its evolution from a mid-sized player into an international insurance group. The expansion of HDI Global SE into a leading industrial insurer, the development of our international retail business by HDI International AG, the acquisition of the Gerling Group in 2006 and the going public of both Talanx AG in 2012 and Hannover Rück SE in 1994 were major milestones. Premium income grew from EUR 3.7 billion to roughly EUR 20 billion by 2006 (2020: EUR 41 billion). The Group moved up the ranking of German insurance groups from number 8 to number 3.
Herbert K. Haas, the current Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of Talanx AG and HDI V.a.G., praised Wolf-Dieter Baumgartl for his prominent role in shaping the German insurance industry. “Long-term, forward-looking action, the courage to take on challenging risks, creativity combined with robust assertiveness, as well as a keen intellect coupled with a very straightforward and human manner – these were the qualities that set him apart. He will be deeply missed.”
