Stephan Geis has more than 15 years of experience in industrial insurance. Most recently, he was Head of Distribution Germany/Switzerland at Allianz Commercial, where he was responsible for the sales territory in Germany

HDI Global Specialty SE appoints Managing Director for its Australian Branch
HDI Global Specialty (HDI) has announced that Mark Fleiser, formerly General Manager of its Australian operations, has been promoted to Managing Director of its Australian branch, effective immediately.
Fleiser has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, and has been employed by the Talanx group since 2009.
In his role as General Manager, Mark has successfully overseen the growth of the Australian operation, with it now being a significant contributor to the speciality lines insurer’s overall performance.

Alain Godard nominated as Chairman and Managing Director of the European fund for digital sovereignty
Mr Alain Godard has been nominated as Chairman and Managing Director of a new high-level initiative. He will take up his duties on 1st January 2023.
Following the joint declaration of the 8th February 2022 on “European Scale-Up” under the French Presidency of the European Union, Mr Alain Godard was nominated to set-up and lead the European fund for digital sovereignty. As Chief Executive of the European Investment Fund (EIF), Alain Godard has played a leading role in designing and promoting this strategic initiative supported by several Member States, notably, France and Germany, as well as the EIB Group.
The scale-up initiative aims to support innovative companies and start-ups in the digital economy, sustaining their development within Europe. The Fund will address a market gap that has led to the refinancing of three quarters of our most successful start-ups outside the EU. In view of the global environment and the importance for Europe to strengthen its sovereignty in key strategic sectors such as energy, food, security and defence, this is an absolute priority for all EU Member States. The European Scale-up Initiative aims to provide crucial financing for Europe’s high-tech companies in their late-stage development, when they want to scale up their business from a start-up status to a more developed venture.
Commenting on the nomination, Dr Werner Hoyer, President of the European Investment Bank, said: “I am delighted to announce the nomination of Alain Godard as the Chairman and Managing Director of the European Fund for Digital Sovereignty. Under his leadership, the EIF has responded to the COVID crisis by tripling its activity volumes to historical highs and doubling its capital. Alain Godard is currently Chief Executive of the European Investment Fund and was previously the Chief Risk Officer and Director General at the European Investment Bank. In 2015, Alain Godard contributed to the design and the implementation of the European Investment Plan (EIP) and the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI). In 2010, he was one of the architects for the establishment of the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) and in 2012, the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).
Alain Godard was also founder and chairman of the Global Emerging Markets (GEMs), an international consortium bringing together multilateral development banks, international financial institutions and national promotional banks to promote investment in emerging markets by sharing expertise and financial data. GEMs is a tool supporting European development policy and facilitating public and private investment from Europe into emerging markets and developing countries.
As an economist, Alain Godard has held various managerial positions in finance and Assets/Liabilities management at the EIB since he joined in 1994, after a career in management consulting in Paris and London. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Finance (DES) and an MBA from the Institut Commercial de Nancy. He is a Certified Accountant (DEC) and alumni of the Executive Program of IMD (International Institute for Management Development). Alain Godard is a former high-level athlete.
Barclays appoints Jefferson Rives as a Managing Director in Healthcare Investment Banking
Barclays announces the appointment of Jefferson Rives as a Managing Director in Healthcare Investment Banking. Mr. Rives will be based in New York, and will focus on healthcare services including IT, payer and pharma supply chain. He will report to Rick Landgarten, Global Head of Healthcare & Real Estate Groups at Barclays.
Mr. Rives joins Barclays with over fifteen years of industry experience, most recently as a Managing Director in Healthcare Investment Banking at Wells Fargo. Prior to joining Wells Fargo in 2015, Mr. Rives worked in the Global Healthcare Banking team at Morgan Stanley, and before that from 2011 worked at Jefferies & Company in the Global Healthcare Group. Mr. Rives has been involved in corporate advisory and financing transactions totaling over $175bn in value during his career to date, and has extensive experience in HCIT, Pharmacy Supply Chain, and Employer, Payer, and Provider Services. He has led the origination and execution of a number of high-profile transactions, including advising PANTHERx Rare Pharmacy on its sale to Centene, advising MeMD on the company’s sale to Walmart, and serving as bookrunner on equity deals for Phreesia, One Medical, Omnicell, Allscripts, and Change Healthcare.

Barclays appoints Lucy Demery as Managing Director to cover Fintech clients in Europe, the Middle East and Africa
Barclays Investment Bank today announces the appointment of Lucy Demery as a Managing Director, responsible for the coverage of Fintech clients across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
She will work with Barclays coverage, country and product teams, as well as Joel Fleck, in his role as Global Head of Fintech Banking, to broaden and deepen coverage of European fintech clients and identify global market opportunities. She will also collaborate with Barclays Corporate Banking and Private Bank partners to help deliver the full suite of Barclays capabilities to fintech clients. In addition, through Barclays Rise platform, Lucy will form partnerships with fintech innovators and start-ups, identifying opportunities where these companies can add value to our clients.Lucy joins Barclays from Standard Chartered Bank where she was Global Head of Fintech Banking and played a leading role in defining and developing strategic partnerships with fintech clients and investors across the bank. In this role she responsible for the origination and execution of strategic transactions across M&A, capital raising, leveraged finance, capital markets and transaction banking products. Prior to Standard Chartered, Lucy was an investment banker at J.P. Morgan and an M&A lawyer at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP. AEGIR-Marine appoints Jaap de Lange as Managing Director
The Board of AEGIR-Marine has appointed Jaap de Lange as Managing Director. Jaap will guide the AEGIR-Marine Group through today’s challenging times and will further empower AEGIR’s position as worldwide leader in Stern Seal & Propulsion Services.
Jaap de Lange has a solid marine background. He started his career in the Royal Dutch Navy, and was in consulting for 23 years in a variety of roles. Since 2009 he worked for Damen Shipyards in several senior leadership positions around the globe.

Jaap de Lange will start on June 15th and succeeds Peter Zoeteman, who has served as a Managing Director ad interim since September 2019.

Ecclesiastical has announced Richard Coleman as managing director of its UK general insurance business.
Richard Coleman, whose career began at Eagle Star before he spent 18 years at Zurich, is currently European director and global head of insurance & assistance at Collinson. He is also an advisory board member at artificial intelligence insurtech Cytora.
“I’m excited to be joining Ecclesiastical,” said Coleman, whose appointment is subject to regulatory approval. “It’s a strong and successful business with a great track record, and the potential and ambition to do more in a fast-changing market.
“It also has a unique purpose in the financial services sector to contribute to the greater good of society – something that speaks to me on a very personal level. I am really looking forward to working with my new colleagues and our broker partners.”
