AIG Appoints John Neal as President

American International Group, Inc. (NYSE: AIG) has announced that John Neal will be joining AIG as President, effective December 1, 2025. In this role, Mr. Neal will report to Chairman & CEO, Peter Zaffino and lead AIG’s General Insurance organization, which includes the North America Commercial Insurance, International Commercial Insurance and Global Personal Insurance businesses. He will become a member of AIG’s Executive Leadership team.

Mr. Neal was formerly the CEO of Lloyd’s of London, a leading insurance marketplace, serving in the role from October 2018 to January 2025. He is credited with leading its successful turnaround during that time. Before Lloyd’s, Mr. Neal was the Group CEO of QBE, where he held several senior leadership roles throughout his career, including Chief Underwriting Officer and Chief Operations Officer for the company’s European operations.

Lloyd’s announced that Chief Executive Officer John Neal will be leaving Lloyd’s in 2025, after leading the world’s marketplace for insurance and reinsurance for over six years. Neal will be joining Aon as its Global CEO of Reinsurance and Global Chairman of Climate Solutions, with the leaving date to be confirmed in due course. 
During Neal’s tenure, he has led a reset in the strategic direction of the world’s largest insurance marketplace, turning the market around to consistently deliver industry-leading performance, placing it in the strongest financial position in recent memory, with sustainable growth and record profits. Neal has also set up Lloyd’s strategic agenda to deliver digital, operational and cultural change for the long-term future of the market. 
Alongside delivering outstanding financial performance and upgraded financial strength ratings, Neal’s leadership has guided Lloyd’s through a number of complex challenges including Brexit, rising interest rates and inflation, a global pandemic and geopolitical conflict. 
Neal has also been instrumental in promoting the strength and contribution of the insurance industry to critical stakeholders, as well as advancing strategic partnerships with the UN and governments around the world. This has included his strong advocacy for the critical role that Lloyd’s and the global insurance industry has in supporting the transition to a sustainable future.

AON, a leading global professional services firm, announced today the appointment of John Neal as Global Chairman of Climate Solutions and Global CEO of Reinsurance for Aon, effective following the conclusion of his notice period.
Neal will help lead Aon’s efforts to address the growing and complex risks associated with climate change, while also building on the success of the firm’s industry-leading Reinsurance team, further enhancing the value Aon delivers to clients. His appointment arrives at a critical time as businesses and communities around the world must tackle increasing volatility driven by climate-related events, and as Aon continues to leverage its integrated Risk Capital capabilities to offer the firm’s clients advanced analytics, innovative solutions and access to new sources of capital. Neal will play an important role in delivering Reinsurance solutions to meet the evolving demands of today’s dynamic marketplace. He will be based in London, reporting to Andy Marcell, CEO of Risk Capital for Aon, and serve as a member of the firm’s Risk Capital leadership team.

Prior to joining Lloyd’s, Neal served as Group CEO of QBE, a global insurance and reinsurance business, where he was responsible for running a $14 billion gross written premium (GWP) business with over 14,000 employees in 37 countries. Before becoming CEO, he held a number of leadership positions at QBE, including Chief Underwriting Officer and Chief Operations Officer of the firm’s European operations. Previously, he led a management buyout of Ensign to establish a dedicated Lloyd’s Managing Agency. As CEO of Ensign, he grew GWP to $300 million to create the leading specialist commercial motor underwriter in the UK. He also worked at Bankside Managing Agency, where he was the youngest active underwriter at Lloyd’s, and started his career at the Crowe Underwriting Agency.
