Swiss Re announces Group CFO succession as John Dacey retires in 2025

Swiss Re announced that Anders Malmström will succeed John Dacey as Group Chief Financial Officer as of 1 April 2025.
Swiss Re’s Chairman Jacques de Vaucleroy said: “We are pleased to have found a seasoned leader, with deep expertise in finance and the insurance industry, in Anders Malmström. We are convinced that he is the right person to take the Finance function forward after an orderly transition.”
Anders Malmström will join Swiss Re in early 2025 from Athora Holdings, a leading European savings and retirement services group, where he has served as Group Chief Financial Officer since May 2021. Prior to Athora, he was Senior Executive Vice President and CFO of Equitable Holdings in New York. Before that, he was Senior Executive Director and CFO at AXA US, member of the executive board and Head of the Life business at AXA Winterthur and held senior leadership roles at Swiss Life Group. Anders Malmström is a graduate from the Stanford Executive Program, holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Aachen in Germany and a Master’s degree in Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy from the University of Basel.

Among his many achievements are the development of the Finance function into a more efficient and aligned organisation across the Group’s businesses and the successful implementation of Swiss Re’s transition to the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).”
While John Dacey will retire from his executive role on 31 March 2025, he will continue to represent Swiss Re as a non-executive director on the boards of FWD and CPIC.

Brit to Appoint RSA’s Wilkinson as Group CFO

Brit Ltd. announced the appointment of Gavin Wilkinson as group chief financial officer. Wilkinson will start his new role in May 2021 and will also join the executive committee and board of Brit.
A proven and highly experienced finance leader, Wilkinson joins Brit from RSA where he is currently CFO, Scandinavia. During his 10 years at RSA, he has held a number of senior finance roles including CFO of RSA UK & International, CFO of RSA Ireland and group performance & capital director. Wilkinson started his career at Deloitte, where he qualified as an accountant, working within its financial services practice.
Wilkinson’s appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

Ki’s CEO Mark Allan will step down from his role as Brit CFO once Wilkinson has started his role. (Ki is the first fully digital and algorithmically driven Lloyd’s of London syndicate, launched this year in collaboration with Brit Ltd. and Google Cloud.)

Bupa announces Group CFO Joy Linton will be leaving in 2021; Martin Potkins becomes Interim Group CFO from 1 December 2020

Bupa announced that Joy Linton, Bupa’s Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO), will be leaving Bupa in 2021 to take a major new appointment in Australia. Martin Potkins, Bupa’s Corporate Development Director, becomes Interim Group CFO from 1 December 2020 while the search for a permanent successor takes place. Joy and Martin will work together over the period ensuring a smooth transition.

Joy has been Bupa’s Group CFO since 2016. She joined Bupa in 2011 and was Finance and Commercial Director of the Australia and New Zealand Market Unit until she moved to London in 2015. She is returning to Australia to take up the role of CFO at CSL Limited, a global biotechnology company and Australia’s largest quoted company by market capitalisation.
Martin’s appointment is subject to regulatory approval. He is currently Bupa’s Corporate Development Director and Chairman of Bupa Global’s international private medical insurance company based in the Republic of Ireland. He was Bupa’s Corporate Controller from 2015 to 2019. Martin has substantial financial experience having previously held senior roles at Resolution, Friends Life, Prudential and Aviva.

“Having previously been Bupa’s Corporate Controller, Martin knows us extremely well. He also brings substantial external experience and finance expertise. I know Joy and Martin will ensure a safe and seamless handover over the coming months.”

However, my family and I are pleased to be able to return to Australia and I’m looking forward to joining the CSL team next year. In the meantime, I’m fully focused on my role at Bupa, and on ensuring a smooth transition.”
