Lloyd’s confirms Claire Schrader as General Counsel

Lloyd’s, the world’s leading marketplace for insurance and reinsurance, has announced Claire Schrader as General Counsel, responsible for managing legal risk at Lloyd’s, a role she has been performing on an interim basis since August 2023. She remains a member of Lloyd’s Executive Committee.
Claire is a qualified solicitor, with over 20 years’ experience in law and the insurance sector. She has been with Lloyd’s since 2000, during which time she has built a strong reputation among her colleagues in the Corporation and throughout the market as a trusted legal adviser. Claire has extensive knowledge of the insurance industry and regulatory frameworks that support the Lloyd’s market.

Renato Costantini appointed new General Counsel of Credit Suisse (Switzerland) Ltd.

Renato Costantini has been appointed as the new General Counsel of Credit Suisse (Switzerland) Ltd. In this role, he will also be a member of the Executive Board of Credit Suisse (Switzerland) Ltd. and of the Management Committee of the Swiss Universal Bank division.

After studying law at the University of Zurich, Renato Costantini was admitted to the Swiss Bar Association and later gained a PhD from the University of Lucerne. He began his career in 2002 at the Zurich District Court. After many years as an attorney with Niederer Kraft & Frey, where he specialized in banking and financial law, he joined Credit Suisse in 2011, where he has held various senior positions within the General Counsel unit – most recently as Head of Legal Products & Wealth Planning and as Head of Legal Trading, Brokerage, Custody & Payments at Credit Suisse in Switzerland.
44-year-old Costantini succeeds Thomas Grotzer, who has served as interim Global Head of Compliance of Credit Suisse Group AG since April 6, 2021. 

Chubb Appoints John Fielding Global Government and Industry Affairs General Counsel

Chubb announced the appointment of John Fielding as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Global Government and Industry Affairs. In this role, Mr. Fielding will provide legal, regulatory and policy guidance and advice to Chubb’s state, federal and international government affairs team. He will coordinate and ensure consistency in advocacy throughout the company’s government affairs activities and will represent the company in a wide range of regulatory and industry settings. 
Mr. Fielding joins Chubb from the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB), where he served as General Counsel for four years. He was also Of Counsel with law firm Steptoe & Johnson, where, for over a decade, he represented CIAB, as well as other insurance trade associations, carriers and producers before Congress, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL), and state insurance regulators with respect to policy and regulatory matters.  From 1997 to 2003, he was Senior Counsel for Financial Services at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.  Mr. Fielding, who is based in Washington, D.C., reports to Joe Wayland, Executive Vice President, Chubb Group and General Counsel.

Karen Kuder appointed General Counsel of Deutsche Bank

With immediate effect, Karen Kuder has been appointed General Counsel of Deutsche Bank and Global Head of the Legal department. She reports to Stefan Simon, designated Management Board member responsible for the Legal department and relations with both governments and regulatory authorities.
Karen Kuder succeeds Florian Drinhausen, who, as announced at the end of April, will leave the bank on May 31, 2020.

Karen Kuder has been with Deutsche Bank for more than 20 years. Born in Zittau, Saxony in Germany, her experience includes proprietary mergers & acquisitions and as a senior advisor to the bank’s German corporate client business. Her focus was on lending law, including restructuring and insolvency law with broad experience also including secondments in the Risk department and DWS in London and Luxembourg. She also helped shape the European and German legislative process for the restructuring and resolution planning of banks after 2008 and was responsible for Deutsche Bank’s banking regulatory law worldwide from 2016. In 2018, she became Chief Governance Officer with global responsibility for the bank’s governance framework.
Karen Kuder joined Deutsche Bank in 1992 and trained as a bank clerk for two years in Dresden. She then studied law at the University of Augsburg and the Technical University of Dresden. She returned to Deutsche Bank in 2000 and received her doctorate from the Technical University of Darmstadt in 2006. She has published numerous articles on banking law. Since 2016 she has been a member of the EU Insolvency Expert Group, which supports the EU in introducing a harmonised insolvency law within the framework of the Capital Market Union.
