Germany: EIB finances CompuGroup Medicals’s digital health research with up to €200 million

German company CompuGroup Medical (CGM) develops software solutions for doctors, dentists, pharmacies and hospitals.
The project will develop software solutions for healthcare providers and digital health platforms for the management of hospitals and medical practices.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is supporting the digital health specialist CompuGroup Medical with a loan of up to €200 million for research, development and innovation. The project will develop software solutions for healthcare providers and digital health platforms for the management of hospitals and medical practices in Germany and other EU countries.
The Koblenz-based company is one of the European Union’s leading suppliers in the healthcare IT sector developing software solutions for doctors, dentists, pharmacies and hospitals. The project will be implemented in CGM’s research centres, primarily in Germany. Some 300 new skilled jobs could be created during the four-year project period. During implementation, an estimated 5 400 person-years of work will be created in the European Union.
EIB Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle said: “The EIB is proud to support this innovative digital health company in research, development and innovation. The digitalisation of the health sector is crucial to the European Union’s competitiveness and for supporting good quality jobs. By financing this project, the EIB is helping to bridge the digital gap between the European Union and the United States, and the digital divide within the European Union.”
CompuGroup Medicals’s spokesman and CFO Michael Rauch added: “We strongly believe in the digitisation of the health sector and we are very happy that the European Investment Bank chose to partner with us. After an initial partnership in 2021 totalling €250 million for healthcare professionals, which in particular targeted “medical deserts”, Crédit Agricole Group and the European Investment Bank are once again joining forces and putting in place a new package of €400 million. In line with Crédit Agricole’s Societal Project, this partnership will help healthcare professionals meet their financing needs, particularly when they are in the process of setting up their activities.
Crédit Agricole and the European Investment Bank join forces in a new partnership for healthcare professionals Crédit Agricole pays particular attention to access to healthcare and is devoting 50% of the package, i.e. a total of €200 million, to support the establishment of self-employed healthcare professionals and very small companies in the healthcare sector across the country. Davos: European Investment Bank pushing support for clean energy as key response to energy security and climate crisis

EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti will represent the European Investment Bank Group at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on 22-26 May. This year’s forum is centred on the theme “History at a Turning Point: Government Policies and Business Strategies.” Vice-President Vigliotti will be accompanied by Director General for Operations Jean-Christophe Laloux.
The EIB Group will join the debate and highlight the Bank’s initiatives in areas and regions that are at a turning point. The EIB Group is financing the “twin transition”- green and digital, worldwide, and ensuring that no one is left behind.
The Bank has supported Ukraine, following the Russian invasion, with an emergency solidarity package and has unlocked €4 billion to help manage the refugee crisis. Via its new development arm, EIB Global, the Bank is scaling up its activities outside the European Union in partnership with local institutions and other multilateral banks.
“I am delighted to represent the EIB Group this year at the World Economic Forum, which gathers the world’s top leaders from politics, business, civil society, academia, media, and the arts,” said EIB Vice-President Vigliotti. “During the event, I will make the case that now is the perfect time to take the quantum leap in mobilising green and sustainable finance. Russia’s war against Ukraine shows us how critical it is to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated what we can achieve, in a relatively short time, when we act together. Despite the immediate crises, we cannot afford to lose focus on averting a global crisis that will be more disruptive than anything we have experienced in recent years. It is now or never. The EIB, as the EU’s climate bank, will play its part in this by activating sustainable investments to make fragile economies more resilient to climate shocks both within and outside Europe and by crowding in the private sector to promote the twin transition – green and digital”.
EIB Vice-President Vigliotti will be speaking at the following panels:
Monday 23 May at 2.15 pm: Building Economies in Fragile Markets.
Monday 23 May at 5 pm: Panel on Humanitarian and Resilience Investing – Creating Pathways to Scale.
Tuesday 24 May at 6 pm: Multilateral session – Moving clean hydrogen from hype to reality.
Wednesday 25 May at 7.30 am: Session on Diplomacy Dialogue on the Western Balkans.
Thursday 26 May at 9 am: Session on Industry Net-Zero Transformation – The Financing Challenge.
EIB Director General for Operations Jean-Christophe Laloux will speaking at the following panels:
Wednesday 25 May at 07.00 am: Panel discussion with Heads of major financial institutions – Big-picture view of the 3 Seas initiative from the perspective of Western financial institutions.
Wednesday 25 May at 09.30 am: Joint Governors Policy Meeting: Net-Zero infrastructure
