ABN AMRO wins Euromoney Awards including ‘Western Europe’s Best Bank for Sustainable Finance’

In London, ABN AMRO was announced winner of two prestigious Euromoney Awards for Excellence including ‘Western Europe’s Best Bank for Sustainable Finance’. ABN AMRO also received the award for ‘The Netherlands’ Best Investment Bank’, as it did in 2016 and 2017.
Kees van Dijkhuizen, CEO ABN AMRO, said: ‘Together with our clients, we can have a positive impact on making society more sustainable. Winning the award for Western Europe’s Best Bank for Sustainable Finance is recognition we are on the right track and encouragement for us to continue our efforts in this important area. Furthermore, winning the award for The Netherlands’ Best Investment Bank yet another time is a big thank you to our clients for their trust in us and our staff for their hard work and dedication.’
At the ceremony, Fred Bos (Senior Managing Director Commercial Finance and Sustainability) and Vincent Goedegebuure (Global Head of Client Coverage) were present to receive the awards on behalf of ABN AMRO.
‘While many banks are engaged in sustainable finance across Western Europe, very few are focusing every part of the bank on having an environmental or social purpose. ABN AMRO, Western Europe’s best bank for sustainable finance, is one that is’, Euromoney said.
Euromoney continued: ‘The local leadership of ABN AMRO, the Netherlands’ best investment bank, is still clear. The bank has been working hard not to just maintain its market share at home, but also to make sure the corporate and institutional banking business as a whole is sustainable in terms of its own profitability – and its impact on the environment’.
ABN AMRO has undertaken various initiatives to accelerate the sustainability shift. To name a few examples: the bank has increased sustainable financing it has available for its commercial clients to EUR 3 billion by 2020. ABN AMRO has a long history in offering sustainable investments to its clients and as from 2018, sustainable investments are the default option for new private banking clients in the Netherlands, resulting in EUR 15 billion sustainably invested assets today. ABN AMRO is in the top five banks in the league tables for Euro-denominated green bonds, and the bank is the sole green bond structuring advisor on the Netherlands first sovereign green bond this year. ABN AMRO is a leader in offshore wind financing and we aim to finance at least 100 circular loans by the end of 2020.
