Two new non-executive directors join Barclays Bank UK PLC Board

Barclays Bank UK PLC announced two new non-executive appointments to further bolster its Board. Bernadette Wightman joined as an independent non-executive director in September while John Liver commenced his role yesterday, 17 October 2022.

Bernadette brings knowledge of transformation, technology, and digital innovation to enhance customer experience, whilst John brings expertise in financial regulation. Their experience and insights will complement and enhance the Board’s existing skillset to help accelerate Barclays UK’s strategic transformation.”
Bernadette Wightman has extensive experience in digital technology and driving global business transformations. She is currently Senior Vice President of Worldwide Partners and Global Accounts at Genesys, a US business specialising in omni-channel customer experience and contact centre solutions, based in the UK. Previously, she was Managing Director for BT Group’s banking and financial services business. She also had a 20-year career at Cisco, where she managed large global businesses and served as the President and CEO of Cisco Canada.
John Liver is a leading advisor on financial services regulation in the UK and internationally. A former UK regulator, his most recent role was as a Partner at professional services firm EY, where, working with authorities and major institutions, he co-chaired the Global Financial Services Regulatory Network, and led European work on the post-2008 regulatory reform agenda and conduct regulation. He is a trustee of Rethink Mental Illness, a charity dedicated to supporting people severely affected by mental illness.

Barclays Bank infuses over Rs. 3,000 crore capital to grow India operations

Barclays Bank PLC India (“Bank”) has announced an investment of over Rs. 3,000 crore in the Bank by its Head Office to accelerate its growth ambitions in India. With this infusion, the Bank’s total invested capital in the country will increase to over Rs. 8,300 crore .
The expansion in Tier 1 capital reinforces Barclays’ commitment to India, and will enable further growth of the Bank’s Corporate & Investment Banking and Private Clients businesses. Barclays has built a market leading business in the country as demonstrated by its top tier financing, advisory and risk management businesses within the Investment Bank, the entire suite of Corporate Banking capabilities, including cash management and trade finance, and significant growth of assets under management by the Private Clients business for several of India’s High and Ultra High Networth Individuals and Family Offices.
Jaideep Khanna, Head of Barclays, Asia Pacific and Country CEO, India, said “The capital infusion in the Bank reflects the success and strong track record of our India franchise built over the last three decades. As part of its expansion plans in the country, Barclays Bank PLC also inaugurated its International Banking Unit (IBU) branch at GIFT City in Gujarat in February 2021.
